“Tony Owen has got no chance against me,” claims Danny Connor

Southern Area light welterweight champion Danny ‘Cassius’ Connor promises to retain his title on October 5th in London.

The Surrey boxer faces old friend Tony Owen to defend his hard-earned belt on the highly anticipated ‘Carpe Diem’ show at The O2 Arena that also showcases the debut of Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua.

Connor adamantly commented, “I promise you this; on October 5th I guarantee I’ll still be the champion. Tony’s got more chance of winning the Euromillions than beating me!”

27 year old Connor (10-6-1) and 26 year old Owen (14-2-0) both hail from Sutton, Surrey and trained together at the Rosehill Amateur Boxing Club over 10 years ago.

Owen has the better record winning the first 12 professional fights losing only to British title challenger Ben Murphy and Prizefighter champion Chris Jenkins.

However, Connor can boast the more impressive CV following inspirational wins against Tyler Goodjohn, Chris Evangelou and reaching the finals of the previous Prizefighter Tournament.

The area champ went on to say, “I want it too bad to lose. I want this more than I wanted the Evangelou fights and Prizefighter. This is my world title fight and I’ll prove with my fists that I’m the better man with the bigger balls!”

It makes for an excellent match between friends turned foes and boxing fans are equally divided in picking a winner. Regardless of predictions, it’s a fight that many supporters will be paying good money to witness first hand.

Connor vehemently concluded, “October 5th should be renamed ‘Fireworks Night’ because I’ll be letting off some big rockets, straight at Tony Owen’s chin.”

The event, headlined as ‘Carpe Diem’ is the preferred motto of gold medallist Anthony Joshua as he makes his first step into the pro’s and the first ring outing since last year’s London Olympics when he defeated Italian Roberto Cammerelle on countback after they had tied 18 points each.

The Olympic super heavyweight signed a three-year deal with promoter Eddie Hearn, following Team GB teammate and fellow gold medallist Luke Campbell into the Matchroom Sports stable.

Bantamweight Campbell already made his spectacular debut in July, knocking out opponent Andy Harris in the first round.

Joshua will be joined by fans’ favourite Kevin Mitchell, brilliant Welsh featherweight Lee Selby, former Team GB starlet Martin Ward and Prizefighter champions Wadi Camacho and Larry Ekundayo.
