The Historic Yost Theater to Host International Boxing Action as the USA Knockouts and Astana Arlans Face off on Thursday, January 31

(SANTA ANA, CALIF.) – World Series of Boxing action is returning to Orange County as the USA Knockouts battle the Astana Arlans in a night full of international boxing competition on Thursday, January 31 at 7 p.m. in Santa Ana, Calif. The event will be the second home match for the USA Knockouts and the first of 2013 for the lone United States-based World Series of Boxing squad.

The Yost Theater, Orange County’s historic venue, will play host to the five-bout card on Thursday at 7 p.m. Each World Series of Boxing roster showcases a mixture of home nation and international talent and the USA Knockouts are no exception. Knockouts from three different countries will take the ring on Thursday with local talent being added for the opening domestic event of 2013.

2007 Pan American Games bronze medalist Braulio Avila of Mexico will compete in bantamweight action. He will face the Arlans’ Khabibulla Ismail-Akhunov in the opening bout of the night.

WSB veteran William Williams (Conyers, Ga.) will take on Israel’s Konstantin Snigour in the middleweight contest. Williams, a former National PAL Championships silver medalist, was a member of the Miami Gallos during the inaugural season of the global boxing league.

Knockouts heavyweight Istvan Bernath was initially a member of the Astana Arlans and he will face his former team in Thursday’s competition. The Hungarian boxer will take on two-time European Championships Roman Kapitonenko in the final bout of the night.

The 2013 debut of World Series of Boxing action is being co-promoted by Roy Englebrecht, and is the first of four upcoming WSB events on the west coast. Tickets for the full night of boxing action are only $25 and can be purchased at and

The WSB uses a 10-point must scoring system for all of its bouts, which are contested in five weight divisions: 119 lbs, 134 lbs, 161 lbs, 185 lbs and 201+ lbs. Rankings are compiled both as a team and individually for playoff action, which will take place from March-May. The first global boxing league, the World Series of Boxing is entering its third season of action. The first two seasons were broadcast in 29 countries to an audience of 58 million people worldwide.

The USA Knockouts will return to action on February 9 in a showdown with the German Eagles in Reno, Nev. The squad will be back in Orange County for a battle with the Ukraine Otamans on February 21 and will host the Dolce and Gabbana Italia Thunder in Reno on March 1.
