Suz Member faces Tadas Stulginskas on March 1st
Professional boxing’s first British-born Indian fighter, Suz Member, will take his first step towards a shot at a title on 01 March 2014 when he lines up against Lithuania’s Tadas Stulginskas at London’s legendary York Hall.
The welterweight, who has been touted as a future world champion, is determined to smash even more records, and will be unveiled at the Bethnal Green arena as promoters Acourtier Events’ newest acquisition, and will fight on an international televised card featuring WBU European Championship bouts.
Member, also a full-time firefighter in North West England, has won five of his opening six EBF licensed bouts to date – all by way of knock-out – and insists that he is fully prepared to begin being fast-tracked towards a title fight of his own.
Often found on the wrong side of the law as a teenager, Member has since turned his life around and now mentors youths in prisons, schools and groups. And the Lancashire-born boxer is keen to fulfil his potential to one day in the not too distant future become a world champion.
Member said: ‘I am a great believer in that everything in life happens for a reason and I have been blessed with an amazing opportunity by Acourtier Events to write my own piece of history in world boxing.
‘My goal is to fulfil my potential and become a world champion, and that is what I intend to do.
‘I want to leave a legacy so that others with their own aspirations may be inspired to chase their goals in life, what ever they may be, regardless of what situation they may find themselves in or what background they may be from.’
Dave Murphy, Head of Acourtier Events, has high hopes for Member: ‘Suz is someone who we have had a keen eye on for a while. He is a tremendous athlete and a good boxer. We have high hopes for him, and as long as he keeps winning, we are confident we can get him the titles he (Member) craves.’
The British-Asian boxer, who has been courted by the legendary Sheffield Champion Herol Bomber Graham, is looking to further his career under the tutelage of Salford’s Oliver Harrison, whilst working alongside renowned conditioning expert Farrell Kilbane – the brother of former Everton FC footballer, Kevin.
Member’s opponent, Stulginskas, enters the show – named ‘WARZONE’ – with two victories from his previous three fights.
