Scouse Puncher Wants KO Double

Liverpool fight fans could well have an exciting new KO star to get behind, if ex-MMA warrior Colin Farricker’s pro boxing debut is anything to go by.

The Scouse banger became just the third man to stop renowned tough-guy Mitch Mitchell in over 20 fights when he knocked out the Lincoln journeyman with a vicious uppercut on his debut in February.

Now slated to face another equally durable foe on his second pro outing, when he steps in with Derbyshire’s Elvis Dube in his home city’s Greenbank Sports Centre on April 26, Farricker is looking to do the double and make it two KO’s in succession.

“I’m actually quite laid back and don’t just come forward straight away. I like to look for openings and my aim is to pick people off.

“I’d be happy if it went the same way to be honest,” revealed Colin about his date with Dube, a fighter who has only been finished early three times in 30 fights.

“I don’t want it to go the distance. I’m not going to throw stupid shots just for the sake of it, and I’d rather catch him when he’s not expecting it. But I want to put on an exciting performance.”

A former pro Thai Kick fighter, as well as a champion MMA contender, Farricker is looking forward to boxing in Liverpool for the first time after making his bow in Southport.

On a card packed full of Scouse talent, and headed by Johnny ‘Boy’ Quigley making his return from America, the 28-year-old is eyeing a title-laden future that will take him to the top.

“This show is just five minutes from my house,” explained Farricker. “I don’t mind where I fight but you’ve got to love fighting in your hometown, haven’t you? I think there’s pretty much a Scouser in every fight and this is going to be a top show for the Liverpool fans.

“I want to get to Lonsdale Belt level eventually, that’s the main goal for anybody starting out. I’m just content to see where I go this year, and then next year I’d love to fight for the British.”

“With Tony Bellew moving up to cruiserweight, Liverpool needs another exciting light-heavy and I think Colin could fit the bill,” said promoter Steve Wood. “His debut was really impressive, he landed some terrific shots and to stop Mitch Mitchell is a real statement. This bill will be a very exciting night of boxing for Liverpool and I really hope the fans come out and support the lads.”

VIP Promotions present a top night of boxing at Liverpool’s Greenbank Sports Centre on Saturday April 26. Appearing on the show will be Liverpool fighters Johnny Quigley; Louis Cuddy; Adam Ismail; Colin Farricker; Chris Kelly; Ryan Moorhead; Jake Smith; Ryan Vaughan, and Phil Smith. Also appearing will be Lancaster’s Dempsey Fury.

Tickets, priced at £30 (General) and £60 (Ringside), are available from all boxers or at or can be purchased on the door.
