R&R Promotions’ future talent featured Saturday on SHOWTIME
This Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., one of the top boxers in the sport, Adrien “The Problem” Broner, will be fighting for his third world title against Brooklyn native Paulie Malignaggi. As a Cincinnati native, Broner has put the Queen City back on the map in boxing and three fighters who currently live and train out of Cincinnati alongside Broner will be looking to continue that momentum appearing on the undercard of the SHOWTIME-televised event.
Rau’shee Warren, Jamel Herring, and Robert Easter Jr. will each be fighting in separate bouts that will be televised starting at 7 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME (time permitting). The trio, being promoted by R&R Promotions, are considered some of the top young talent in boxing, and recently turned pro last fall after representing the U.S. in the 2012 London Olympics.
The main event promises to be an exciting one between Broner, 26-0 (22 KOs), and current WBA welterweight champion Malignaggi, 32-4 (7 KOs). Broner is moving up to his third weight class in the past year and will look to impressively become a three-weight champion at the age of 23.
Warren, 26, will meet Puerto Rico’s, Jiovanne Fuentes (5-1, 4 KOs) in a scheduled six-round bantamweight fight. Warren is 4-0 (2 KOs).
Herring, 27, who is originally from Coram, N.Y., will be making a homecoming in Brooklyn against Calvin Smith (2-3) of Prichard, Ala., in a four-round lightweight bout. He’ll be looking to add another win to his 3-0 (2 KOs) record.
Easter, 22, who was an alternate on the Olympic team, is currently 4-0 with 4 knockouts and is looking to display some of his power against Antoine Knight (2-3, 1 KO) of Merrillville, Ind.
All of the R&R Promotions fighters have been in training camp for the past several weeks in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Olympic Training Center. The work has been non-stop as prior to heading to Colorado preparation began for the fights in Cincinnati at their home gym, the Mount Auburn Rec Center.
Broner is coming off fifth round stoppage over Britain’s Gavin Rees in another dominating performance. Malignaggi, however, presents a different challenge as a slick two-time world champion veteran. Broner vs. Malignaggi is being presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with R&R Promotions and the main event action begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME. Tickets are still available for this championship event at www.barclayscenter.com, www.ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster locations, by calling 800-745-3000 and at the American Express Box Office.
