Roman “Rocky” Martinez receives his WBO 130 lb title; International Boxing Hall of Fame Al Bernstein to commentate Boxing Matches
CAROLINA, PUERTO RICO- Newly crowned World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior lightweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez received his belt last night during a show held at El San Juan Resort & Casino in Isla Verde, Carolina, Puerto Rico.
Martinez (26-1-1, 16 KOs), who won the title after a win by split decision over Miguel Beltran Jr. on September 15 in Las Vegas, got his belt from the hands of the WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel in an activity as part of the card where Female World Champion Yesica Bopp and WBO Latino Champion McWilliams Arroyo defended their titles.
“I’m very proud to become a world champion again. It was a good fight against a good foe as Beltran and I want to keep this belt long time. I’m going to start hard training soon”, Martinez said.
While, Valcarcel said that Martinez is going to make a mandatory defense against the best ranked Mexican Juan Carlos Burgos on December, 2012, or January, 2013.

September 27, 2012 – Chicago, IL – The 10th Anniversary of Legends Fight Night will take place on October 4th, 2012 in Chicago at the Chicago Illuminating Company. The event is hosted by OpenField Foundation and will honor NFL Legend Mike Ditka along with honorary hosts Gale Sayers and Neal Wilkinson. This year’s exclusive event has chosen the Gale Sayers Center and the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund as the charitable beneficiaries.
Legends Fight Night will have International Boxing Hall of Famer Al Bernstein as the event’s ringside commentator. Bernstein is an award winning sports commentator for ESPN, Showtime and Great Britain’s Channel 5. After being the voice of boxing for over 30 years, Al is now forging a new road on the internet as Executive Producer of BoxingChannel.tv, the first all boxing channel created. Bernstein has used his talents to chronicle his great broadcasting career by releasing his new book “30 Years, 30 Undeniable Truths.”
