Ricky Hatton Backs Jazza Dickens For Glory
RICKY HATTON believes James “Jazza” Dickens can beat Kid Galahad at his own game when they clash at the Magna Centre in Rotherham on September 14.
The pair meet to contest the vacant British super-bantamweight crown and ‘The Hitman’ feels Dickens has what it takes to become the latest boxer to take a Lonsdale belt back to Merseyside.
Recent months have seen the Smith brothers, Paul and Stephen, add to the domestic titles already held in Liverpool by David Price, Tony Bellew and Kevin Satchell.
He said: “Kid Galahad is tricky and likes to move, but so does Jazza. He’s quick, strong and was a top amateur so has the boxing brain to suss out Kid’s style.
“I’ve said before that I think Jazza is a bit of dark horse at this weight and I think he can surprise a few people with a fantastic performance.”
Recently, Hatton’s long-time nemesis Junior Witter came out in support of Kid Galahad.
The former WBC light-welterweight champion has trained with the Sheffield stylist at the famous Ingle gym for many years and, while he admitted the match-up isn’t a foregone conclusion, he stated Kid Galahad will “come out on top”.
“Junior is obviously going stay loyal to his stable mate,” Ricky responded. “I’m Jazza’s promoter so I’m loyal to my fighter.
“I don’t think this fight is going to be like a lot of people are predicting. I think it’s a real pick ‘em fight, but I think Jazza will win a close battle.”
Jazza Dickens versus Kid Galahad is promoted by Hennessy Sports and will be televised live on Channel 5.
