RICHARD “AZONTO” COMMEY
Richard’s awesome boxing rise may come as a shock to the English boxing fans from a man who has dispatched all of his opponents in short distances. In a capper reminiscence to the Hollywood’s drama, Richard’s sensational rise to the boxing prominence owe to his association with the UK based Michael Amoo-Bediako who decided to shape the Young Turk’s boxing future at no cost!
“I saw the lad for the first time in Ghana and decided that this is it” said Bediako recently when he attended Richard’s IBF Continental Africa Lightweight tourney in Accra, Ghana. “I will take him to the pinnacle of boxing and am sure his rise will help fuel others to follow his path” said Michael who owns a network of Fitness Gymnasiums all over Europe.
Cap it with his association with Carl Lokko, the great Ghanaian boxing trainer, Richard fortunes are in safe hands now that he is pursuing the oldest boxing titles in Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC). The CBC formed in 1954 is one of the oldest and most prestigious boxing titles in the world. Many African boxers from Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya have ascended to the world prominence after winning the CBC titles.
The CBC is a reliable vehicle to the world titles as great boxers like Sir Henry Copper, Dennie Mancini, Hogan Kid Bassey, Carl Froch, Barry McGuigan, Joe Bugner, Ayub Kalule, Azumah Nelson, Lennox Lewis, Floyd Robertson, Lottie Mwale, Paul Ferrari, the Musankabala brothers (Albert and Francis), Stephen Muchoki, Modest Napunyi and many others owe their success to CBC.
Richard’s path could take him all the way to the pinnacle of boxing. With a lot of interests to the lad from various quarters, nothing would excite him more than another title to propel him towards the world title. But, first thing first, he has to dispatch Paul Truscott before he can focus on the higher titles.
This one Billion Dollars or is it one Billion UK Pounds question, would be answered on July 13, 2013 at the York Hall, in London, UK. As for Richard, the young man has always had something up his sleeve to surprise the boxing pundits.
