Morales To Return To Canastota



CANASTOTA, NY – MARCH 27, 2014 – The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today four-division world champion Erik “El Terrible” Morales will return to Canastota to participate in 25th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend festivities scheduled for June 5-8th.

“In an era filled with superstars, Erik Morales is one of boxing’s most popular and revered champions,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We are thrilled to welcome him back to Canastota and fans will surely enjoy the opportunity to see ‘El Terrible’ at the Hall of Fame.”

Born in 1976 in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Morales turned professional in 1993 and used an aggressive ring style to become one of the most exciting fighters of his generation. He captured world titles in four weight divisions (WBC/ WBO super bantamweight, WBC featherweight, WBC / IBF super featherweight and WBC light welterweight), the first Mexican boxer to do so. Still active, Morales’ record stands at 52-9 (36 KOs) and includes wins over Junior Jones, Wayne McCullough, Marco Antonio Barrera, Kevin Kelley, Jesus Chavez, Paulie Ayala, Manny Pacquiao and Hall of Famer Daniel Zaragoza.

Events planned for the weekend include a banquet, a Night of Puerto Rican Pride, parade, golf tournament, boxing autograph card show, cocktail party and the Official Induction Ceremony honoring the Class of 2014. Inductees include two division champion “The Pride of Wales” Joe Calzaghe, six division world champion “The Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya, three division champion Felix “Tito” Trinidad, promoter Barry Hearn, referee Richard Steele, journalist Graham Houston and photographer Neil Leifer. Posthumous inductees in the Old-Timer, Pioneer and Non-Participant categories will also be honored.

An impressive list of over 40 boxing greats from the United States and abroad are scheduled to participate in weekend.
