Michel Tavares: “I will go for it in APB”
Lausanne, Switzerland , July 5th 2013 – The AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) “Boxer of the Week” campaign turned its attention to French Middleweight (75kg) Michel Tavares in the build-up to his APB exhibition bout in Brazil against London 2012 Olympic Bronze medallist Yamaguchi Falcao.
The Frenchman will have his work cut out for him when he steps out to face Brazilian Falcao in the face of a partisan Carioca crowd in the first scheduled APB event in the Americas. Following a week of dedicated attention of the APB facebook page, boxing fans from all over the world asked Tavares their questions on the bout and his preparations for it. We have published this exclusive fan-generated interview on the AIBA website.
The European boxer revealed that he doesn’t really believe in following a specific nutrition plan, even as a world class athlete, saying “I love eating” and concluding that “actually I believe that once you are ready for the bout, you are ready and that is that. It’s not about food”.
Nor would he admit to having any strategy for the bout, which will be the most important of his career to date, and a milestone in the history of the sport of boxing. Rather he simply hinted that he “will have a strategy on the night” but that for now he is focusing on his “four hours of training a day”.
Despite joining APB Tavares is hoping to continue his participation in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) with Season II Champions, the Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder “for at least another season” as he “has learned a lot from them”. We will need to wait however for further announcements from the team to see if he will indeed be included in next year’s line-up.
Tavares’ interview is now available in full on the AIBA website (http://t.co/Ywyno91Tfn).
APB’s “Boxer of the Week” campaign was launched on May 13th. It is designed to unveil the entire APB boxers’ roster athlete by athlete.
