Jordan Shimmell fights former world title challenger on Friday Night Fights show
Jordan Shimmell, 15-0 with 13 KOs, is scheduled to fight an 8 round cruiserweight bout on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights show this Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Little Creek Casino in Shelton, WA. Jordan’s opponent is former world title challenger Epifanio Mendoza, 37-17-1 with 33 KOs.
Mendoza lost to then light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson who Jordan had the chance to spar before Dawson’s successful title defense against Adrian Diaconu in 2011. Jordan has been getting ready for his fight against Mendoza by helping another Michigan native, Anthony Dirrell, get ready for his world title challenge on August 16th against Sakio Bika. Jordan has sparred dozens of rounds with Dirrell plus many more rounds with other pros and top amateurs including 2014 National Golden Gloves super-heavyweight champion Jermaine Franklin. Jordan knows that Mendoza is a big puncher as evidenced by his 33 KOs out of his 37 wins including a TKO victory over 2008 Puerto Rican Olympian Carlos Negron. Jordan will look to show off his own power and excellent boxing skills that he has sharpened over the last year by sparring world champions Wladimir Klitschko and Adonis Stevenson plus many top contenders.
Jordan Shimmell is the USBO Cruiserweight Champion and is world ranked by the IBO and the WBC. He is ranked in the regional rankings by the NABA, NABF, NABO and USBA organizations. Jordan is one of the top cruiserweight prospects in the world.
