“Holiday Havoc” amateur boxing event strikes North Jersey Saturday night
PARAMUS, N.J. – Christmas is coming early for North Jersey fight fans this Saturday night as LBC Sports Management presents “Holiday Havoc — An Amateur Boxing Event” at the Paramus Elks Club in Paramus, N.J.
The event will feature a plethora of amateur boxers hailing from over 20 gyms in the tri-state area, said organizer Mike Rizzo, and several open class bouts are guaranteed to put the Garden State’s best young talent on display.
But it’s about more than that, Rizzo said — the show is, for many boxers, the final test after many months of grueling training. Amateurs don’t get paid like the pros do, he said, and for those who step into the ring solely “for the love of the game,” fighting in front of a crowd can be a reason to maintain their discipline and keep themselves on the right path all year long.
“They want to succeed. They’re proud of working so hard, and they want to showcase it,” he said. “My guys are from everywhere — Irvington, Paterson, Paramus, Ridgewood — but it doesn’t matter, because their goal is the same: they want to compete. And even though there are temptations (like peer pressure) everywhere you go, being in the gym keeps them away from all of that. Without these shows, though, all of their hard work and dedication go away. Without these shows, positive doors close for these young people.”
Besides, he said, with over 15 bouts on the card, you’re sure to get more action than you might from a $60 Pay-Per-View ticket.
“It will be better than what you pay for on TV, and a lot cheaper,” he said. “This show will be one of the best you’ve ever seen.”
The “Holiday Havoc” event kicks off at 7 p.m. sharp at the Paramus Elks Club, which is located at 200 Route 17 North in Paramus, NJ. Pre-sale tickets cost $20, price at the door is $25. Kids 10 years old and younger will be $10. Cash bar and food will be available.
