Guerrero motivated to give Mayweather his first loss on Saturday
(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) ROBERT GUERRERO has fired back after big fight rival Floyd Mayweather accused him of looking for sympathy after his wife battled cancer.
The California boxer challenges for Mayweather’s World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday night, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).
Guerrero’s wife beat a near fatal leukemia battle three years ago and her illness has become a major story during the build-up to this weekend’s big clash at the MGM Grand Garden.
He has dismissed Mayweather’s claim that he used her suffering to gain fans, snapping: “There isn’t anything he can say or do that can compare to seeing my wife battle cancer.
“His talking and belief that he is unbeatable motivates me to go out and shock the world.”
Guerrero, 30, hasn’t been beaten in seven years and that defeat against Gamaliel Diaz was avenged.
His only other blemishes are a couple of no contests and a technical draw against Julian Rodriguez back in March 2004.
Guerrero insists boxing on the biggest stage of all will not faze him, adding: “Raising two kids and having a wife dying from cancer, now that’s pressure.
“So this is no problem. This just comes with the territory and you’ve got to do it to take care of business.”
