Fitzers quickfire return on Dundalk bill
Following his epic ten round point’s loss to Andy Lee just three weeks ago at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, the Pride of Dublin Anthony Fitzgerald will make a quick return on the Homecoming bill at the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk on the 9th of March.
The Northsider will join his gym mates Noel O Brian, Willie Mitchell, Philip Sutcliffe Jr and Willie Casey on the Dundalk bill that also includes some Belfast’s brightest pugilistic prospects.
Having picked up a cut against Andy Lee just three weeks ago, it has proved a waiting game for Fitzgerald who just today received the all clear from his doctor. Today’s news is another boost for the 27 year old who is delighted to maintain his current upward momentum.
“I didn’t know if I was going to be able to fight in Dundalk but I’m delighted the doctor gave me the all clear today. Unfortunately I got cut in Belfast and was also unable to take up another offer of a big fight in case the cut didn’t heal but thankfully I can now join the rest of the lads on this bill and keep things going for myself”.
Having pulled off what many Irish boxing fans believed was impossible when he pushed fellow Irishman Andy Lee right to the wire the Dubliner believes keeping active will ensure him an eventual crack at a major title.
“It’s really important that I stay active if I’m to build on my performance against Andy Lee which proved to a lot of doubters that I have what it takes to mix it at the highest level. While I preformed well against Lee I know that I can get a lot better and it will be by getting fights and working hard in the gym that doors will continue to open for me”.
Fitzgerald’s inclusion is certainly the topping on what is surly one of the most talent packed small hall shows Ireland has ever seen. Also making his first appearance since returning to former trainer Phil Sutcliffe is former European champion and world title challenger Big Bang Willie Casey.
The Homecoming fight night will also showcase one of the most anticipated professional boxing debuts in many years as the heavy handed former Irish senior champion Philip Sutcliffe Jr swaps the vest for the paid ranks.
Full details of the fight card will be announced in the coming days. Tickets are priced at £30/ €35 unreserved & £40/ €50 ringside and are available from fighters or Stephen Sharpe on 0879537526 & Philip Sutcliffe on 0879719193
