Chris Truman Ready To Exorcide Ghosts On Friday, 13th

On Friday 13th, Chris Truman wants to exorcise a few ghosts.

The Erdington-born boxer wants to right the wrongs of defeat at the hands of Lee Jennings when he takes on his brother, Stephen, at the Institute, Digbeth, Birmingham on Friday, 13th September.

Truman suffered a first round TKO at the hands of Lee two years ago and is using that as motivation ahead of a British Masters Light Welterweight Title encounter with Stephen.

That clash tops the bill of It’s-A-Bout-Boxing’s first Birmingham show of the new season. Under the guidance of promoter, Marcus Anderson, It’s-A-Bout-Boxing are earning a reputation for dynamic, explosive shows. Truman versus Jennings for a British Masters strap, originally scheduled for June but postponed due to a niggling hand injury on Truman’s behalf, is certain to live up to that billing.

“That defeat to Lee Jennings still plays on my mind a bit,” Truman told “I boiled down to make the weight, it was at lightweight, and I shrunk muscle as a result. I hadn’t weighed 9 and a half stone since I was about 16. I was like a zombie and that’s why what happened, happened.

“It was my first defeat as a pro too, so it sticks in your mind. I was 7-0 at the time. Fair play to Lee, he caught me but I wasn’t in the right condition.

“Stephen will want to do what his brother has done and beat me but, at the same time, I want to beat Stephen to make up for losing to his older brother.

“In a way it will help me put that defeat to bed. It’s a big fight for us both and one that we both will be in top shape for. My hand is fine now. It was more of a precaution back in June, so I’ll be ready to go all guns blazing.”

Tickets are just £25 General, £50 Ringside and £75 VIP Ringside. They are by calling the Box Office on 0845 467 3930 or 07888 870 650.

‘Friday 13th’ features a whole-host of boxing talent from upcoming talents from Prospects Gym Warren ‘Big Rig’ Sinden, Michael ‘Mad Man’ Mooney and Ainsley Seivwright to unbeaten super middleweight, Andrew ‘D’Animal’ Robinson.

Former British Welterweight Champion, Young Mutley, is also back in action having had a change of heart following his retirement last year.

Coventry’s unbeaten heavyweight, Mike O’Hagan, super flyweight prospect Samson ‘Slick’ Sykes and youngster Mikey Boyles complete the card on what is sure to be a fiendishly good night of boxing.
