Casino Miami Jai Alai presents “Freedom Fights”

In Miami, Tiburon Promotions brings a spirited January 18th boxing card to Casino Miami Jai Alai filled with fighters who left oppressive circumstances in their home countries to hold America true to her promise of “…liberty and justice for all.”

The fights will be headlined by thirty-year old former Golden Gloves champion light heavyweight Azea “The Haitian Hitman” Augustama (15-1, 9 KOs) looking to continue his six-fight win streak in the scheduled ten-round main event. Augustama, now ranked number seven in the USBA, takes on Thomas Brown (14-4-2, 8 KOs) of South Carolina.

The co-main event showcases the very busy twenty-year old Cuban super bantamweight Hairon “El Maja” Socarras (9-0-1, 6 KOs) in a scheduled six-round contest for his fifth fight this year alone. Socarras, fresh off a first-round knockout victory last Saturday night, squares off against Jamal “The Mailman” Parram (7-9-1, 5 KOs).

Egyptian light heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali (2-0, 2 KOs) returns in a scheduled four-round tussle following his impressive TKO victory here last August.

All three of these fighters left their home countries to escape the same kind of political and economic oppression that Martin Luther King Jr. fought for here in the US. Although their tactics are definitely not non-violent, they hope to make the same American Dream a reality for themselves and their families using the tools of their grueling craft.

Tiburon Promotions chief Al Bonanni states: “I grew up in a racially divided Miami and I saw the struggle firsthand that moved this city into becoming one of the most diverse in the country. You look and we have blacks, Haitians, Hispanics and Anglos coexisting in harmony in one place.”

Also on the card is Colombian welterweight newcomer Harold Calderon (1-0) looking to build on his successful professional debut with a repeat victory at the Casino.

Bonanni plans to add at least two more highly competitive bouts showcasing the best in local boxing talent as the date moves closer.

Tickets are already on sale for the show, with prices ranging from $75 for VIP to $30 for reserved ringside and $15 for general admission available at or by calling the box office at (305) 633-6400.
