Danny Williams: The Warrior who can’t quit – will face Oleg Maskaev in Russia November 4th

Danny Williams: The Warrior who can’t quit will face Oleg Maskaev in Russia November 4thTwo ageing heavyweights who really should be happily enjoying retirement will meet in Russia on November 4th. R-Sport reports how Oleg Maskaev, the former WBC heavyweight champion, will face Britain’s Danny Williams in Krasnodar, Russia. 44-year-old Maskaev, 38-7(28) was to have faced Corey Sanders in a rematch of a 2002 meeting which was won by Sanders via 8th-round TKO, but Sanders was unable to get a visa to travel to Russia. 40-year-old Williams, who has a 44-18(33) record (having lost his last eight outings, half by stoppage) was available and has been brought in at short notice.

Maskaev, known as “The Big O,” launched his latest comeback in December of 2012, and since then he has picked up two wins (a 3rd-round TKO over Owen Beck and, last time out in May of this year, a ten-round UD over Jason Gavern). Williams should certainly have quit at least a couple of years ago (he is unable to get a licence to box in Britain), while Maskaev, also way past his best, appears to have at least something left. Rios picks Maidana to beat Broner

Rios picks Maidana to beat BronerBrandon Rios is picking #2 WBA to defeat WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) in their pay-per-view fight on Showtime on December 14th at the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Rios thinks that Broner isn’t unhittable like Floyd Mayweather Jr., and he likes the power that Maidana has after sparring 10 rounds with him. Rios says the sparring with Maidana was pretty brutal.

Rios told esnewsreporting.com “I think it’s going to be a tough fight, but I think he [Maidana] can pull it off. Broner showed [against Paulie Malignaggi] that he can be hit. He’s not like Mayweather. When Maidana cracks, he cracks hard.” Continue reading

Weigh-In Video: Brook’s trainer expects KO victory for Kell over Senchenko

Dominic Ingle, the trainer for unbeaten Kell Brook (30-0, 20 KO’s), is expecting a tough fight for him this Saturday night against former WBA welterweight title holder Vyacheslav Senchenko (34-1, 23 KO’s), but ultimately Ingle sees Brook getting to him past the 9th round to record a knockout in this fight in their IBF eliminator bout at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK.

Brook needs a victory in this fight to move forward for another shot against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander.

Brook fought a won an IBF eliminator last year in defeating Hector Saldivia. But then unfortunately Brook suffered two injuries that got in the way of his title shot against Alexander. This time Brook intends on making the most of his opportunities by beating the 36-year-old Senchenko, and then finally getting his shot against Alexander. Continue reading

Burns-Beltran 99 percent done for February

Burns Beltran 99 percent done for FebruaryContender Raymundo Beltran (28-6-1, 17 KO’s) will be getting a second shot at WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2-1, 11 KO’s) in February next year, as negotiations between the two fighters are reportedly close to being done, according to Burns’ manager Alex Morrison.

The fight will take place in Glasgow, Scotland. Beltran wanted a rematch in another venue, but as the challenger he obviously didn’t have the kind of pull needed to dictate where the fight would take place.

Beltran and Burns fought last September in Glasgow, Scotland it’s fairly unanimous among boxing fans that Beltran did more than enough to deserve the victory over Burns. Continue reading

Quillin: Rosado will have to accept defeat

Quillin: Rosado will have to accept defeatWBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (29-0, 21 KO’s) sees himself winning on Saturday night in his title defense against Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. Quillin, 30, sees himself getting a stoppage in over #9 WBO Rosado, and it’s difficult to disagree with that belief because this fight on paper looks to be about as competitive as Quillin’s first title defense against Fernando Guerrero.

That fight was a mismatch the moment it was signed and Quillin took a lot of heat from boxing fans for not taking on a more dangerous opponent. Now we’re getting a repeat of that with Quillin taking on another less than dangerous foe in Rosado, and naturally Quillin realizes that he’s likely to win easily. Continue reading

Quillin vs. Rosado: Will it be the King or the Kid?

Quillin vs. Rosado: Will it be the King or the Kid?Peter Quillin defends his middleweight title for the second time against the ever improving veteran Gabriel Rosado. The fight stands out to hardcore fans as the best matchup of Showtime Triple-header this Saturday night from Atlantic City, New Jersey. In the main even Bernard Hopkins attempts to add to his legend of longevity.

The unbeaten Quillin is on a mission to prove all of his doubters wrong with a great performance. Rosado, who claims he can’t get a legit fight at 154, travels north to 160 once again for a shot to win his first title.
