#1 IBF Kell Brook (31-0, 21 KO’s) will be stepping inside the ring this month to face Mexican welterweight champion Alvaro Robles (17-2, 15 KO’s) on March 15th in a stay busy fight for Brook at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. Brook needs a fight to stay sharp while he’s waiting for a Summer clash against IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter, and Robles is the perfect opponent for Brook to fight.
Brook can’t take the risk of fighting anyone good enough to potentially beat him because he’d miss out on his title shot against Porter, As it is Brook already lost out on a title shot last year against former IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander after Brook suffered two separate injuries that messed things up for him. On Saturday, March 8th, from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, former WBC/WBA Junior Middleweight Champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KOs) will take on former WBO interim title holder “El Perro” Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KOs) in the main event of a superb Showtime PPV fight card.
Boxing journalist and radio commentator Joseph Herron joins talented fight trainer Rick Morones Jr. in this comprehensive video analysis of “Toe to Toe: Canelo vs. Angulo”, as they preview the upcoming Golden Boy Promotions event. Continue reading
(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) This Saturday on March 8th Canelo Alvarez will be taking on the hard hitting Alfredo Angulo. It will be Canelo’s first fight back since he suffered his first defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr. If there is any doubt in Canelo that he can’t make a successful comeback I’d suggest he erase those thoughts now. Angulo is slow but does pack a good punch and if he senses that Canelo is on the defense he will attack.
Canelo possesses power as well and I believe him to be the far more superior boxer than Angulo. Although I must admit that under the wing of Virgil Hunter Angulo seems to be improving. If Angulo has the right game plan going into Saturday’s fight we can see a very competitive fight between the two heavy hitters. Continue reading

Adrien Broner says he’s ready to thrash Amir Khan if the two of them wind up facing each other on May 3rd on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s undercard. It’s still unclear whether the Khan-Broner fight will take place, because Showtime vice president Stephen Espinoza doesn’t see it as a fight that can take place due to Khan and Broner moving in different directions in terms of their weight classes. Broner is moving down to 140, and Khan up to 147.
For the fight to take place, it may require that the two face each other at a catch-weight. It might also require Mayweather to do some convincing to Khan to take fight. Mayweather already offered Khan the opportunity to fight him if he takes the fight with Broner and beats him, but Khan is no longer taking Mayweather for his word after getting left high and dry after winning the poll on his website. Craig B. (Tampa, FL): I was very surprised to see Lomachenko lose to Salido the way he did. I noticed that you predicted Salido to win. What did you see to make you predict that way? And what are your thoughts on Lomachenko’s future?
Vivek W. (ESB): My decision to chose Salido over Lomachenko in my FaceBook prediction had a lot to do with precisely what we saw play out. Continue reading
After weeks of speculation the battleground for the eagerly anticipated rematch between Carl Froch and George Groves on May 31st has finally been announced as the Wembley Stadium. Although Wembley had always been the favorite venue, other stadiums including Emirates and The Millennium Stadium were slated to play host on account of the logistical issues posed by Wembley’s accommodating the England and Peru friendly match on the prior evening.
However the fight’s promoter Eddie Hearn was said to be blown away after first walking through Wembley’s tunnels and has worked tirelessly with the stadium and the FA to see that the biggest fight since the Eubank and Benn rematch was staged there. Hearn heavily believes that the fight is the biggest that Britain will have yet seen and strongly felt that the new Wembley Stadium would do it the most justice, especially as it will be the first boxing match to be held at the new stadium since its reopening in 2007. As fight fans may have read by now, it has been confirmed how the eagerly anticipated rematch between bitter super-middleweight rivals Carl Froch and George Groves will go ahead at the colossal Wembley Stadium in London. The fight, a return meeting of last November’s controversial thriller won by Froch via 9th-round TKO, is expected to sell over 60,000 tickets on May 31st.
Promoter Eddie Hearn told BBC Sport today that he thinks the fight will surpass all other British fights as far as ticket sales go, and Hearn has called the return “the biggest fight in British boxing history.” Currently, there have been a few fights held in Britain that saw over 50,000 fans attend – the Joe Calzaghe-Mikkel Kessler fight that took place at The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in 2007 and Ricky Hatton-Juan Lazcano clash that went down at The City of Manchester Stadium in 2008, this fight the current record holder at around 54,000 tickets sold – but Hearn is convinced Froch-Groves II will break all records.
