Star coach says nobody has a chance against the Klitschkos
31.10 - Press Release: Forget Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. The best heavyweight fighters in the world are the Klitschkos. This is what Ronnie Shields believes, a legendary trainer who was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame a few days ago.
Shields knows what he is talking about. In his long career he has been working among others with former 4-time world champion Evander Holyfield and he prepared Mike Tyson for his fight against WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis.
I know them all. Ive either been working with them or I saw them fight. But against both Klitschkos, especially Wladimir, they are all chanceless, Shields said.
Wladimir is so big and strong. He is so intelligent. And he is still so young. He is just unbelievable. He and his brother are like stars from a different planet, the reputable coach swarmed. The only time Shields has seen Wladimir Klitschko live was when he defended his world title in June against Ray Mercer. But the convincing knockout victory in round 6 was enough for Shields to realize the phenomenal potential of the 26-year-old Hamburg based professional.
In his mind the Klitschkos will conquer the US easily if they continue to work hard, disciplined and consequently. They just have to fight over here to become boxing stars worldwide. Wladimir can dominate the heavyweight division forever, Shields believes. He also showed up impressed about how careful the Klitschkos have been built up in their Hamburg based boxing stable in the course of the years. The promoter and the trainer have done very good work, the man from Texas complimented.
The Houston based coach fought twice for super lightweight world titles in the 80s. The 44-year-old has been working as a boxing trainer for almost 15 years. Among his charges were former world champions Pernell Whitaker, John John Molina and current pound-for-pound candidate Vernon Forrest.
Shields wont be able to be ringside for Vitali Klitschkos fight on November 23 against Larry Donald in Dortmund. But he promised to show up for Wladimir Klitschkos title defense on December 7 in Las Vegas against Jameel McCline.
Both fights are interesting. But both Klitschkos are going to win inside the distance, Shields predicted.
