Promoter Kohl is planned to be inducted into the “Hall of Fame”

28.10 - Los Angeles - Klaus-Peter Kohl of Hamburg’s Universum Box-Promotion is one step away from the greatest honor of his career as promoter and manager. The 58-year-old German is planned to be inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

The only German inside the Los Angeles based boxing museum so far is Max Schmeling. The 97-year-old former world champion was announced in 1982.

“Klaus-Peter Kohl is more than deserving a place in the Hall of Fame”, WBHF general manager Alex Camponovo said. “In Europe he is the number 1 and he is also a household name in the US. We would like to induct him next year.”

“I’m so delighted, I’m speechless”, a deeply touched Klaus-Peter Kohl said. “I didn’t expect this. I’m well aware what an honor it is to me as promoter and manager to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. It makes me proud that I would be only the second German after Max Schmeling who is a great friend of mine.”

“I was always believing that only an international boxing stable is making sense. A national German boxing stable alone has no future perspective. My success proves that I was right.”

Next year 240 international boxing experts will decide about Kohl’s admission into the Hall of Fame. The Hamburg based business man is part of the game of boxing for 30 years now. His latest event on October 12 included, Kohl promoted 185 boxing shows.

His most successful boxers are the WBO champions Wladimir Klitschko, Dariusz Michalczewski and Artur Grigorian, as well as former WBC cruiserweight champion Juan Carlos Gomez who defended his crown ten times before vacating it and moving up to the heavyweight division this year. Whereas the Ukrainian brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko are currently considered as the future of the heavyweight division, the undefeated Dariusz Michalczewski is known as the only threat to Roy Jones Jr. at 175 lb. Beside many successful male fighters Kohl also promotes three of the most successful women boxers: Regina Halmich, Daisy Lang and Michele Aboro.

Fifteen of the boxers who were managed by Kohl became world champions, six of them are still reigning title holders. Many of the Universum champions set up new records for the number of title defenses and the number of titles held simultaneously.

Universum Box-Promotion set up 44 German championships, 25 European title fights, 49 international title contests and 112 world championships.
