Promoter Kohl considers statement of Lennox Lewis as a breach of contract

27.01 - Hamburg - Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl reacted highly annoyed today to a recent statement of heavyweight champion Lennnox Lewis.

Last weekend the WBC title holder announced through his attorney Judd Burnstein that he doesn’t intend to fight against Dr. Vitali Klitschko anymore. This contradicts the agreements and contracts that his manager Adrian Ogun made with Universum Box-Promotion.

For several months the British manager was negotiating with Kohl and signed a contract with the German promoter in December.

“I have to make that clear: I regard this as a breach of contract”, an indignant Klaus-Peter Kohl said. “In the next days I will have several conversations with different people and I will check every possible legal step.”

The fight between Lewis and Dr. Vitali Klitschko was scheduled for April. According to Burnstein Lewis would prefer to fight a rematch against Mike Tyson instead who he already knocked out last year.

However, as the 31-year-old Klitschko is the WBC #1 ranked mandatory challenger the Brit would not only violate contracts but also his mandatory defending duty should he pull out of a fight against the knockout artist from Ukraine.

The usual next step in this kind of a situation is that the respective world boxing body strips the champion off his title.
