Kohl blames McCline for deliberately overbidding himself out

25.09 - Hamburg - In November or December of this year WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, one of the hottest attractions in the game of boxing, will make the next defense of his title.

The opponent that Klitschko, German promoter Universum and the broadcasting channel HBO want is American Jameel McCline, 28-2-3 (16), WBO #1 contender, and considered one of the top heavyweights worldwide.

However, despite of the big chance that such a fight would mean to him – with the winner likely facing WBC champion Lennox Lewis next year - McCline uses dubious purse demands to sneak his way out of the deal.

Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl of Universum Box-Promotion along with other experts believe McCline deliberately overbid himself out.

“Jameel McCline knows exactly that he can’t win a fight against Wladimir. He would suffer a devastating defeat which would mean the end of his career”, Kohl said. “That’s why he uses dubious purse demands as excuse.”

“HBO made him a very fair offer. I don’t think he hesitates to accept the money. I believe he hesitates to accept the risk.”

Wladimir Klitschko, 39-1 (36), is the WBO heavyweight champion since October 2000 when he handed reigning title holder Chris Byrd a devastating defeat, knocked him down twice to win a lopsided decision.

Klitschko made four title defenses since: Against Derrick Jefferson (KO2), Charles Shufford (KO6), Francois Botha (TKO8) and Ray Mercer (TKO6). In the Mercer fight that took place three months ago in Atlantic City, Klitschko shocked all experts when he methodically outclassed and punished the man who once fought evenly with Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield.

Klitschko Bros Join German Comission For Unesco

25.09 - Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko continue to use their status as popular, world-class championship boxers to reach out and help the world. The latest endeavor of Wladimir, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight champion, and brother, Vitali, a former WBO heavyweight titleholder, involves UNESCO - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The brothers have agreed to work specifically for the UNESCO program of Special Ambassador Ute Ohoven, which supports more than 180 projects in 87 countries.

"We will do special projects and activities that includes lots of speaking engagements in support of UNESCO," said Wladimir on the eve of the official announcement that will take place Wednesday during a major press conference in Dusseldorf, Germany. "This is an honor to work with such a worthwhile and worldwide organization. It is a long-term relationship and we look forward to helping children in need in developing countries such as Africa, Asia, South America and other places. We will visit different projects in these countries and try to raise money for school and education projects.'' "These are the things we like to do," said Vitali. "My brother and I get lots of legitimate offers daily for help. UNESCO has such a good, clean image and stands for so many positive things we could not say no. I believe the only other athletes to support the UNESCO organization are the legendary soccer star, Pele, and Michael Schumacher, the great Formula One driver. It was really an honor that we were asked." UNESCO, founded in 1946, is an international forum that contributes to peace and security by promoting collaboration among the nations through education, science and culture through an exchange of information, experiences and ideas. UNESCO is the only UN Organization having National Commissions. The German Commission for UNESCO (DUK) was founded in 1950, preceding Germany's official admission to UNESCO on June 11, 1951. On the fiscal front, both the 6-foot-7 Wladimir (37-1, 34 KOs) and the 6-foot-8 Vitali (31-1, 30 KOs) are hopeful of fighting one more time before year's conclusion.
