Michalczewski victim Hall proves to be bad loser

19.09 - By Fabian Weber - It was a hard day’s work for WBO light heavyweight world champion Dariusz Michalczewski when he defended his crown against the dangerous Jamaican Richard Hall last Saturday in Braunschweig via TKO in round 10. After this exciting duel “The Tiger” is relaxing in home in Gdansk. Much to the surprise of Michalczewski Hall showed up as a bad loser days after the fight and came up with nasty allegations.

As Hall had no explanation why his power was insufficient to knock Michalczewski out he pretended on the internet that the champion must have been on Steroids. To make his story sound more realistic he additionally pretended that Michalczewski had been in hospital with a broken jaw – both incorrect information.

“I’m very surprised and also disappointed about the late reaction of Hall”, Michalczewski said from Gdansk. “Basically he was a fair loser at first. Of course I never use Steroids. Also we always have to undergo the doping control. If someone could have been pepped up it was rather Hall if you look on the energy he spent in the first rounds.”

Hall furthermore criticized the referee and the doctor at ringside that they didn’t stop Michalczewski because of his cuts even though they stopped himself back in December when swellings had entirely closed Hall’s left eye.

“The decisive thing that a doctor at ringside has to pay his attention to is how much coordination a boxer has left”, Dr. Benckendorff explained. “That’s how you decide whether you stop a fight or not. Michalczewski still had 100% of his coordination. This was entirely different with Hall last December.”

Dr. Benckendorff also put another rumor straight when he stated that the “Tiger’s” jaw was never broken. The visit of a hospital was unnecessary. Michalczewski went straight back home to Gdansk.

“In Germany there are no bad decision but only bad losers”, promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl stated. “On the post fight press conference Hall gave Michalczewski a lot of compliments and he admitted that Dariusz was the better man. Both he and his trainer complimented the great heart of Dariusz many times. It’s unfortunate that Hall now turned into a bad loser.”

A simple look at Saturday’s punch stat numbers is basically all you need to explain why the stoppage by referee Rudy Battle in round 10 was absolutely correct. After Richard Hall threw 80 to 90 punches in most of the rounds and landed an average of 30, he could he only throw 17 punches in round 10.

Of those 17 punches Hall landed only 3.

Michalczewski in return landed ten times more punches in the last round. He threw 35 punches in the 10th and landed 31.

Every insider knows that controversies are nothing new in the game of boxing. And to be a good loser is not always easy. However, that’s the reason why there are three persons inside the ring: Two boxers and one referee. And only one of them is naturally objective – before, during and after the fight.
