Corrie Sanders requests more time for preparation, cancels Hamburg fight

WBO heavyweight championship rescheduled for Bayreuth on November 15

01.10 - Hamburg - WBO heavyweight champion Corrie Sanders from South Africa has cancelled his fight against challenger Lamon Brewster for Hamburg, October 18. Sanders asked Universum Box-Promotion to give him more time for preparation that he says he needs for his first title defense.

On March 8 this year Sanders dethroned WBO champion Dr. Wladimir Klitschko in Hannover/Germany and hasn’t fought since. Originally, Sanders was scheduled to fight on the same card with WBO lightheavy king Dariusz Michalczewski (vs. Julio Gonzalez). The fight night in Hamburg’s Color Line Arena on October 18 will nevertheless take place as planned. It is Michalczewski’s 49th fight as a pro, and if he defeats Gonzalez, he will equal Rocky Marciano’s historic record streak of 49 wins.

Universum Box-Promotion has offered Sanders a new date for the Brewster fight: Bayreuth/Germany, November 15 (live on ZDF TV). The Bayreuth card features title fights with Alexander Petkovic, Johnny Nelson, Daisy Lang, Thomas Ulrich and others.
