Teresa Tapia To Be Honored By World Boxing Hall Of Fame

06.10 - In tribute to her devoted, skilled and successful management of Johnny Tapia’s illustrious career, the World Boxing Hall of Fame will honor Teresa Tapia with The Special Recognition Award at the 24th Annual Banquet of Champions in Commerce, California on Saturday, October 18, 2003.

At the insistence of her husband Johnny, Teresa Tapia officially became his manager in September of 1995. Eight years later, Johnny is a five-time World Champion whose titles have included WBO Super Flyweight, IBF Super Flyweight, WBA Bantamweight, WBO Bantamweight and IBF Featherweight Champion.

Under Teresa’s management, Johnny’s distinguished career record of 53-3-2 (28 KOs) has included wins over Manuel Medina, Cesar Soto, Nana Konadu and Danny Romero in the now legendary “Battle of Albuquerque.” Just two weeks ago, Johnny beat a game Carlos Contreras in a 10 round decision before thousands of loyal, screaming fans in his hometown of Albuquerque.

Johnny Tapia said, “I am so proud of her getting this award. She deserves it because she’s an incredibly smart business woman. She works so hard and has got me to five World Titles. I would have nothing without her. I owe her my life and my career.”

Teresa and Johnny have two young boys and live in Albuquerque.
