Winky Wright: "Let's Settle the Jr. Middleweight Debate!"

SHANE DOES NOT WANT TO FIGHT OSCAR.
OSCAR DOES NOT WANT TO FIGHT FERNANDO.
WHO CAN OSCAR FIGHT IN SEPTEMBER? (WINK! WINK!)

"IT IS TIME TO SETTLE THE JR. MIDDLEWEIGHT DEBATE!"
- WINKY WRIGHT, IBF JR. MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION

07.02 - Is this boxing or a boxing soap opera?

Shane Mosley has vowed he will reject a $4.25 million offer to fight WBC/WBA super welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya in September.

De La Hoya's promoter Bob Arum is quoted today in the Las Vegas Review-Journal as saying "Nobody cares about Shane Mosley. He has no fan base. None. Who wants to pay to see him? Vargas is a better option."

And Oscar? Just a few weeks ago, on the popular radio show Las Vegas Punchline, Oscar volunteered, "Everybody talks about how I've never been an undisputed champion, so I want to fight Winky Wright so that I can do that. That would be big for me to do that, so I have to put Winky on my list, absolutely."

"Let's just unify the title and give everyone - fans and media alike - the fight they have all been asking for," said Wright, the IBF jr. middleweight champion, from his training camp in St. Petersburg, FL. Wright is preparing for a March 1 title defense on the John Ruiz-Roy Jones, Jr. WBA heavyweight championship card in Las Vegas.

"Every legitimate member of the boxing media has Oscar and me rated No. 1 and No. 2. They want this fight. Fans of all nationalities and ethnic groups want this fight. Oscar wants this fight. I want this fight. Major venues want this fight. Who doesn't want this fight? "

Only one person Winky. Let's go back to the November 22, 2002 USA Today:

"Belt, shmelt," said Arum. "Forget Winky. It is totally and completely unsaleable."

Bob, get yourself a new script writer. This material is getting O-L-D!

"My team will be in Las Vegas in two weeks, as will HBO and Arum. Let's just sit down and make the fight."

No press tour needed for this fight, the media of the world will already be in Las Vegas for Jones-Ruiz. Just announce the fight during fight week.

"I have said it before and I will say it again, if Bob is worried about his golden goose laying an egg against me, I do not mind signing a contract with an immediate rematch clause in it. I am not the type of champion who would wait two years before offering one."
