GARY SHAW PRODUCTIONS INKS WILLIAM "THE CONQUEROR" ABELYAN

29.08 - It's official. GARY SHAW PRODUCTIONS, LLC, is ready to pick a fight.

Shaw, who recently received his license to promote in Nevada and New Jersey, among other jurisdictions, announced today the signing of his first fighter to his new company's roster -- NABO featherweight champion WILLIAM "THE CONQUEROR" ABELYAN.

"William and I have one thing in common," said Shaw. "We are ready, willing and able to fight for the title. The only difference is I will do my fighting for him at the negotiation table and let William do his in the ring."

Abelyan, 23, a southpaw with a 20-4-1 (11 KOs) record, is riding a two-year, 10-bout winning streak, which includes six knockouts.

"I could not be happier," continued Shaw. "I wanted the first signing on my roster to be meaningful. To make an impact. William fills the bill. He is ready to take on any of the champions right now and beat them. Hamed, Barrera, Tapia. You are going to see why he is called William 'The Conqueror.' He is going to storm the division!"

Last year, Abelyan garnered the attention of the boxing world by destroying the WBC's No. 1 contender, Guty Espadas, 34-3, via a unanimous decision. Abelyan knocked Espadas down twice in the fight en route to victory with scores of 99-90, 98-90 and 97-90. The most amazing thing was Abelyan took the fight on just four days notice!

Abelyan has followed that epic win with three more victories this year -- a unanimous decision over Jesus Salud, 63-10, and knockouts of Alvin Brown, 17-5, and Orlando Soto, 32-8, for the NABO featherweight title. All told, Abelyan's last four opponents had a combined record of 146-28, and a winning percentage of 84%!

Abelyan is world-rated No. 5 by the WBO and No. 8 by the IBF.

"It is an honor that a fighter of William's caliber chose to sign with me as his promoter," said Shaw. "I appreciate the confidence William and his manager Garnik Khachikian have shown in me."
