Mitchell-Vilches Soldout!
ONLY 90 TICKETS LEFT FOR GARY SHAW'S MITCHELL-VILCHES EVENT!
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (January 24, 2002) -- Gary Shaw Productions' January 25 boxing event headlined by the Sharmba Mitchell - Carlos Vilches IBF jr. welterweight elimination bout for the vacant No. 2 contender position and the return of former IBF jr. lightweight champion Diego Corrales, is a virtual sellout. With just 90 tickets remaining, Bally's Atlantic City Hotel and Casino will have a packed house in its 2000+-seat ballroom.
SHOWTIME Championship Boxing will televise the Mitchell-Vilches bout and highlights of Corrales' fight against Mike Davis, at 10 P.M. EST / 10 P.M. PST.
* NOTEBOOK *
* After a 14-month layoff recuperating from knee surgery, Mitchell has become one of the busiest fighters in boxing. Tomorrow's fight will be his fourth in a 11-month span and his second consecutive fight as the main event on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing, where Mitchell defeated former world champion Vince Phillips, November 9, 2002.
* Vilches is the second consecutive top-10 contender Mitchell has faced. Vilches is rated No. 8 by the WBO and No. 10 by the IBF. Phillips was rated No. 10 by the WBA when he fought Mitchell in November.
* Leavander Johnson and his father Bill will be working Vilches corner. Leavander dealt Mitchell his first pro loss, snapping a six-year, 31-bout winning streak in a WBC title elimination bout, March 18, 1994. Mitchell was KO'd in 8.
Quotes from Sharmba Mitchell:
ON VILCHES
"I seem to get better with every fight [since getting back from knee surgery]. It's been a great training camp. I am finally firing on all cylinders. I have too much talent to lose to Vilches. I will make him fight MY fight."
ON CAREER
"I never look for knockouts. I punish my opponents in the ring. I have ruined more careers by punishing my opponents than with knockouts."
ON TSZYU
"I want Tszyu. If he moves to welterweight, I will do the same. Title or no title I want that fight."
Quotes from Vilches:
"Mitchell has no heart. I am going to pressure him from the start. He will not be able to respond to my pressure."
