Winky Wright To Make Pro Debut As TV Commentator

08.11 - IBF jr. middleweight champion WINKY WRIGHT, will make his television broadcasting debut on tomorrow night's show, headlined by the Sharmba Mitchell - Vince Phillips / Jeff Lacy - Ross Thompson rumbles, in Oklahoma City, OK. Wright will join commentators NICK CHARLES and STEVE FARHOOD on the international broadcast team, which will televise the entire card live to South Africa and on tape delay to England.

South African superstars, IBO bantamweight champion Silence Mabuza, top-rated super featherweight contender Phillip NDou and former WBU heavyweight champion Corrie Sanders, will be featured on the international broadcast. NDou's fight against Vincente Burgo will also be seen (along with Mitchell-Phillips and Lacy-Thompson) on the Showtime Championship Boxing telecast, beginning at 10 P.M. ET/PT.

"I cannot wait to see the South Africans in action," said Wright. "They may be the greatest African discovery since Stanley found Livingstone.!"

Wright, 44-3 (25 KOs), is in his second reign as a world 154 pound champion. Since winning the title, Octover 12, 2001, via a lopsided unanimous decision over Robert Frazier, he has successfully defended the title twice, including his most recent defense, against mandatory challenger Bronco McKart in September on HBO.

Gary Shaw Productions, is promoting the card with Holden Productions, in association with The Sport Entertainment & Media Group, PLC, Golden Lion Productions, Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and Budweiser.
