22.08 - Hello fight fans!!!!!!

Whats the word? I'll tell ya. It ain't ole Roy. Roy Jones Jr. has got to be the most waste of talent since Ryan Leaf. Here is a guy who has fought 2 guys worth mentioning in his career. James Toney and Bernard Hopkins. Look at his resume. It is littered with policemen, firemen, garbage men, etc. John Ruiz? Don't make me laugh. Does 19 seconds mean anything to you?

Jones Jr. is my pd for pd #1 guy by default. Its pretty pathetic really. Here is a guy with so much athletic talent and skill, athleticism and speed. But was he doing steroids? Why has no one mentioned it? Here is a guy who weighed 199 on fight night. There was no 40-50 pd difference. I wonder how he put on all that wt, muscle nonetheless. Where is the after fight drug test? I'll give him credit, but not much. He knew he could beat Ruiz, hence he took the fight. It's that simple. He might lose to Corrie Sanders. He backs out. He might lose to Vasily Jirov. He backs out. He might lose to Buster Douglas. He backs out. Thats the bottom line with Roy. IF he has a chance to lose, he doesnt fight. Pathetic really. But the hardcore Jones fans defend him to the end. I was once one of those groupies. No more.

"Ya'll musta forgot? Risk over reward? Probably not? Could have beaten the rest? Maybe, maybe not. I'm a business man? Yes. Knocked out Virgil Hill with a body shot? Yes, But ya'll musta forgot?". No Roy. I remember. I'm trying to forget your career. Your legacy is still open. I think of Roy Jones, Jr., I think of unfulfilled potential. What a waste.

As far as the "party" for Micky Ward goes, well this is what I have to say about that. It was nice and all, but I will always say the reason Ward- Arturo Gatti did so well was because these guys are white. Both are career journeymen, but since they are the "right" color we give them attention. I dont think we would care if they were of color. Emanuel Augustus Burton comes to mind. Both are career punching bags, dont forget that. If it wasnt for this trilogy, we would have forgotten about Ward. It makes me laugh when people compare these guys to Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales. Tough guys? Yes. Skilled, not quite. If I want to see 2 guys beat the crap out of each other I will go to my pub at final call. Think about it.

Both should have retired long ago. Gatti will be sipping his soup out of his straw soon. Will you the "fans" be there? I think not. You won't be cheering. We as fans are selfish. We only care about the here and now. It is so sad to see Mike Quarry now. Jerry? God bless his soul. Ask his family if any "fans" came by? Ask Gerald McClellan. Or Greg Page. Don't forget these men, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in a crooked, corrupt sport. And people wonder why boxing gets no pub, unless it is negative. 2 words. Mike Tyson.

Oscar hurt his hand again. Don't be surprised if the fight is postponed or cancelled. I guess Oscar didn't like how Shane Mosley is coming along. Wanted to buy some more time. Oscar always seems to pull this. Then blames everyone except himself. I think this will be like the Vernon Forrest- Ricardo Mayorga fights. Shane has his number, seems more hungrier and can't lose. I dont care what he has looked like or that he hasnt won a fight in 2 years. He may be in Delahoya's head. Either that or Oscar will keep thinking about his hand. Either way, I like Mosley more in light of this news. I guess Delahoya can always blame the oysters.

I'm really looking forward to James Toney-Evander Holyfield. At first I thought his might be a boring fight as both don't fight the whole rd and are counterpunchers. But we might see some fireworks. I kinda like Toney in this one. For now, anyways.

As far as having to be a boxer or athlete to write about that sport, dont make me laugh. How ridiculous does that sound. Howard Cosell was not, but ask Monday Night Football if they would like him back. It hasnt been the same since then. And it wont be. Perhaps the problem is Al Michaels. This guy is good but he seems to be always around at the end. Reason? Al is a company man, a YES man. I hate to say it but MNF, well sucks. You dont have to played the game to understand it. There are some good ex-jocks behind the mike, but there are also some bad ones. Same with guys who never played the sport. "Jockularity" as Cosell used to say.

Thats it fight fans!!!!!! Keep your hands up and keep punching for the stars!!! 0 comments
