Brodie To Face Cabrera June 21

05.06 - Press Release: Matchroom Sport are pleased to announce that the anticipated clash between Manchester's Michael Brodie and Juan Cabrera of Argentina will be for the IBO Featherweight Championship of the World.

Taking place at the Manchester Evening News Arena on Saturday 21st June, it will be Brodie's third go at a World Title.

This follows an unsuccessful attempt to wrest the WBC Super Bantamweight crown in September 2000 and then victory in May of last year in a fight for the vacant WBF title against Pastor Maurin .

The fight was originally due to be a defence of Brodie's WBF crown as well as for the IBO belt, but that situation has now changed due to the WBF's legal difficulties.

Commented fight promoter Barry Hearn, "There are many who would see the IBO as a more prestigious title anway. This is a real cross-roads fight for both men and whatever belt the contest is for it looks like being potentially one of the UK fights of the year."
