Boxing’s Baddest: The Fans Speak! V2. Issue 5

Mike Samuels

04.03 - Boy, it’s been awhile since we’ve last heard what the people over at Eastside Boxing have on their minds. If you’ve spent even five minutes around this boxing house then it wouldn’t be surprising to realize that ESB has the craziest, and most vocal crowd of any boxing scribe on the net. This week’s fan opinion isn’t huge, but rather a mere dose of what’s to come, as I’m sure I’ll be flooded with tons of e-mails in the next few weeks. Before I jump into the mails that mostly concern Tyson, Lewis, the Klitschkos, and a little RJJ, I’d like to take this time to inform all of our readers at ESB of the "Guest-Editorial Spot" that will be worked out within the next month. If you’re interested in being ME (basically if you wanna be a loser for a day), and interested in answering fan mail to be posted up here on the site, then contact me and we’ll see what we can do! Okay, okay, okay. I’ll shut up now.

Hey what do you think would happen if Tyson gets 110% and fights one of the
two brothers from russia..6 feet 8 how can you hit them? Also why doesn’t
Tyson get back with his old trainer teddy? Thanks and take care

I’ve been asked this question a lot, and I don’t know how many more times I’m going to have to answer it. Mike Tyson is shot. The guy is finished. He has been finished since he got out of that place in Indiana, you know, the big house? Since then all Mike has done is eat up a bunch of C and D level fighters. When Holyfield challenged him and Lewis, he got KTFO’d. The Klitschko’s are hungry and ready to prove that they can pass any test boxing brings their way. In my opinion, the seventh or eighth round will be the end for Tin Mike if he ever decides to face either of those two Ukrainian giants. As far as Teddy or Rooney, or anyone of that matter from Tyson’s past coming back, keep dreaming. Right now it wouldn’t matter. Mike has never been trainable. When Rooney tried to straighten him out he got scared and told Rooney to kiss his ass. That hurt his career, and ever since Mike has gone around thinkin’ his mean gaze will knock guys out. Yeah, maybe stiffs, but the truth is, Tyson is done. The good man upstairs could train him and it wouldn’t do any good.

Hi There Mike,

I read Your Article about " The Rhinos false Charge" . I beg to differ on a
few a few Points Though.

Firstly, I dont Think Tyson can be Wriiten off so early. For a Fighter
still in good fighting ( AT AGE 36) , he can still put away the Lewis's and
Klitchiskos On a Good day.......YES the Biggest Single deficiency in MIKEs
World is his Mental Psyche and Confidence, which seems to have been
Corrupted by his Hangers on.

He needs a REAL Friend to tell him the Truth, and there has been none since
CUS.( And oh i am sure you know by now i am a HUGE TYSON FAN!)

This is the Same MIKE some 13 years ago was touted as THE " THE Greatest
since ALI".....fast foward a few more years, some Mistakes and The Media
taints him DEVIL.

Come on Guys whose the HYpocrite Here!

I Think Tyson now understands The Media and Plays it better than Ever!!

CHeers

- Ivan.

It’s not a crime to be a Tyson fan, Ivan. Tyson is the most exciting fighter I’ve ever watched and I was a big fan for a long time. He’ll definitely get some sort of historic credit for doing the things he did, and for being the youngest heavyweight champion ever. BUT, Tyson doesn’t have "good-days" anymore. He won’t ever knock out Lewis or the Klitschko’s. Not because he doesn’t have the power, but because he doesn’t have the desire, will, heart, or skill to hit them. Look at how many wild bombs he missed in the opening twenty seconds against The Rhino. Tyson is a front-runner, Ivan. After three rounds anyone, including my Grandma who’s 84 and on her way out (God rest her soul) could take him. At this point, Roy Jones would lie a whippin on him if he survived.

The media has exposed Tyson and fed off of him, but he enjoys it. It’s true that he knows how to play the media, but ultimately he’s paying a huge price for being the "devil" of the sport. Some of it can be blamed towards the media, but in reality it all comes down to the man himself. Tyson is responsible for what he does, and Tyson is the man who ruined what he could have been.

Hello you think you know Mike Tyson will your wrong,, hey he might do some
crazy things and all that shit. But he is still the best boxer/fighter out
there. am 17 and i have been wanned to box for a long time because of Mike
tyson.  He is my hero and I hole he stays on top

- James ward

James, James, Jimmy.. Can I call you that? You need to find a REAL hero. It’s cool to like Tyson for his aggressiveness and temper inside the ring, but the guy is NO hero. I don’t know Mike on a personal level, but he will never be on top again, let alone "stay on top." Face it. Come to reality James. It’s something all you Tyson lovers can’t seem to do. Tyson could get knocked out in his next 5 fights and everyone always has a reason for why it happened. I’ll tell you why: HE IS SHOT. Nothing more to say about that. On the flip side, James, Tyson has inspired a lot of people to box and that’s awesome, but the present Tyson doesn’t inspire much of anyone to do anything.

Jones beat Ruiz, who sucks. Will he have the same enthusiam for facing not just other heavyweights but other fighters who know how to fight and do it well? I doubt it. What pisses me off about Jones other than his amazing arrogance is that he has amazing talent and probably could beat Ali in his day if he had the heart. Now that Jones has the WBA title, will he face Chris Byrd? If he does, I'll be a Jones fan once again whether he wins or loses to Byrd.

- Andrew G.

You are being a bit unfair to Jones, Andy. The guy just moved up in weight yet again and beat the WBA Champion. Who cares if Ruiz is a bum? How many guys have had three wars with Holyfield and lasted thirty-six rounds, and even won one of the fights? Hell, shot or not, Ruiz deserves some respect for his courage and the fact that he was the champion. Roy doesn’t have any more arrogance than any other fighter in the world. That’s just boxing. I hope he fights Byrd because I think that’s a fight that will actually sell, no matter how boring Byrd is to the public. We’ll see.

it is about time to give credit where it is due. Yes ruiz may have been a suspect champion, but that don't make him any less of an heavy weight. Roy went into the fight looking to win not only a decision. I honestly think that he was trying to knock Ruiz out. The has fought other good fighters he just make them all look sub-standard. I think it is about time to give the man his props even if he never fight again.

- vick

I couldn’t agree more; V. Ruiz was still heavier, experienced at the heavyweight division, and able to hurt Roy Jones at any time – just watch the first round over again. I will always have the utmost respect for Jones after stepping up and taking this fight, and I’ve never been crazy about him. But this deserves respect and anyone who doesn’t give it to him should figure out what the hell they are doing involving themselves in this sport.

"David vs Goliath"........lol lol lol they were almost the same size and there was only a 23 pound difference which is nothing rare in a heavyweight fight

Roy Jones-a top pound for pound guy, defeateted John Ruiz- a guy who is no where near the top 100 pound for pound list

Roy needs to fight Byrd (best p4p heavyweight) and/or move down and clear up some questions in the lower divisions......if he does this then he'll recure his place as the best p4p of all time

- death

What’s up with the name Death? Hmmm.. Nobody expected Jones to come in at 175-180lbs, and anyone who thought he would have must not have been paying attention to him. It wasn’t David or Goliath, but it was a brilliant performance, one that deserves respect, even from the under world. Roy doesn’t need to fight Byrd, but it would be interesting. And where do you get off thinkin’ Jones has unanswered questions in the lower divisions? He beat Toney, Hopkins, and everyone at light heavyweight. Unless Glen Kelly has a brother I don’t know about.

How can you give Roy credit if the ref would not allow Ruiz to do anything

- death

I like you Death, so I thought I’d put another one of your entries in here. Don’t get a big head like Roy Jones, okay? Hehe. But I had to include this because it is absolutely the stupidest thing I have heard anyone say. Not meaning to attack you on a personal level, but this whole scheme that was promoted by that idiot Norman Stone and followed through by Ruiz after he realized he needed an excuse after taking an ass whippin. Jay Nady, who I’m not high on, did a fine job. Last time I checked it was Roy’s gloves beating Ruiz’s face that broke his nose and cut him up, not anything Nady did.

I hope RJJ stays to fight Evander, Tua, Tyson, Byrd, Lewis or Wlad. It will guarantee to make him more money than he can spend with a possibility of having one less ear, but who cares? Then, he should encourage DLH to gain 50 lbs, so the fat fuck can challenge him for the heavyweight champeenship. The last time I saw Johnny Tapia, he was looking a bit chunky, maybe he should get next? I think El Feroz is a natural heavyweight, I heard when he's not training, he blows up to over 200 lbs. Or to please even his harshest critics, he should drop to 126 lbs and challenge either Barera or Morales. 60-40?

- Rafael Limon

You know Raf, it seems like Jones could beat everyone and he’d STILL be a target for controversy. Maybe he’ll have to do what you’ve suggested, but even with that said, don’t expect the hate to stop. Ah, that’s what makes this sport so great, right?
