LACY TAKES NOTHING FOR GRANTED IN TITLE VICTORY

17.07 - Undefeated WBC Continental Americas and USBA super middleweight champion, JEFF "Left Hook" LACY, successfully defended his titles while adding the vacant NABA title to his growing collection of championship hardware last night when he won a unanimous decision over Richard Grant last night at Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, CA. The fight was televised live nationally as the main event on ESPN2's "Tuesday Night Fights," on a card promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, LLC.

Lacy, 15-0 (12 KOs), from St. Petersburg, FL, dominated Grant, 14-10 (2 KOs), from Brooklyn, NY, from the opening round where he scored the first of two knockdowns en route to a dominating victory over a veteran with 50% more fights on his professional resume. The judges scored it 119-109, 118-108, 117-109. Lacy showed he had the conditioning and stamina to match his power in going the championship distance for the second time in eight months.

"This was a guy who showed he could take some shots," said Lacy. "He's a survivor. I'm not overwhelmed by the fact he was able to go the distance. That's why I train so hard … so I am able to go the distance. I learned a lot from this fight and I'll work on combating this style of fighter when I return to the gym. I'm pleased with my progress."

Despite suffering a bloody gash over his left eye, the result of a seventh-round, head-butt, Lacy was able to control the fight and, in fact, scored a second knockdown at the end of the 11th round.

Lacy, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team, is currently world-rated No. 9 by the WBO and No. 10 by the WBC. He is the only member of his Olympic brethren to win three titles, much less hold them simultaneously.
