Green vs Duran, Cassiani vs Delgado Headline Klingfish Card On April 7

27.03 - Promoters Anna Beth Goodman/Kingfish Boxing Productions and Jim Browning /Browning Boxing will present a sensational fight card on Monday, April 7, 2003, in the Sam Houston Ballroom at the Radisson Hotel Astrodome, located at 8686 Kirby Drive in Houston, Texas.

MAIN EVENT - 12 ROUNDS, JR. WELTERWEIGHTS - VACANT IBA CONTINENTAL AMERICAS TITLE CALVIN GREEN, 18-2-1, 12 KOs, Baytown, Texas, vs SAUL DURAN, 31-8-3, 26 KOs, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

In the 12-round main event, Calvin "The Dream" Green, 18-2-1, with 12 knockouts, of Baytown, Texas, will face Saul "Baby" Duran, 31-8-3, with 26 knockouts, of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, for the vacant International Boxing Association Continental Americas jr. welterweight title.

A former amateur star, Green is coming into his own as a pro. He has won three fights in a row and is 4-1 in his last five. He started boxing at the age of 10 - as punishment for misbehaving in school - and became one of the top amateurs in the U.S. He was the 1996 Western Olympic Trials champion, the 1994, 1995, and 1996 National PAL champion, and the 1994 National Jr. Olympic champion, all at 139 pounds.

30-year old Duran is a 10-year professional veteran and a two-time world title challenger. He came very close to winning the WBA 130-pound title in Tokyo in February, 1999 - Saul scored a knockdown in the second round and gave a very strong effort, but was penalized one point in the 10th for holding and another in the 11th for low blows. The penalties made the difference in a win for Saul and draw, and defending champion Takanori Hatakeyama retained the title.

CO-FEATURED BOUT - 10 ROUNDS, WELTERWEIGHTS EDWIN CASSIANI, 24-3, 21 KOs, Palenque, Colombia, vs OSCAR DELGADO, 22-18, 10 KOs, Tlaquepaque, Mexico

Edwin Cassiani, 24-3, with 21 knockouts, of Palenque, Colombia, will fight Oscar Delgado, 22-18, with 10 knockouts, of Tlaquepaque, Mexico, in the 10-round co-featured bout.

29-year old Cassiani is coming off one of his career-best wins in his last fight, a third-round TKO against previously undefeated prospect Luis Collazo (14-0). Cassiani was a 1992 Olympic representative for Colombia at 139 pounds. Delgado, also 29 years old, is a 12-year veteran. He is experienced against very good opposition and always gives good efforts.

The undercard will feature some of Houston's top young prospects in separate fights against opponents to be announced, including Ramiro "Rambo" Cano, 13-0, 10 KOs, in an eight-round jr. welterweight bout; Jesus Cerda, 10-0, 4 KOs, in a six-round jr. featherweight bout; Chase Shields, 5-0, 4 KOs, in a four-round jr. middleweight bout, and Jose Barnica, 2-0, in a four-round jr. featherweight bout.
