International Boxing Hall Of Fame Prepares For 2003 Induction Weekend

12.02 – Since the early January press conference announcing the new class of inductees, the International Boxing Hall of Fame’s staff and team of volunteers have been busy planning details for the 14th Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, June 5-8th.

According to Hall of Fame officials, nearly 200 volunteers are contributing their time and effort to make the annual Hall of Fame Weekend a success. Planning for the event began in November and everything is on schedule for a successful and exciting Hall of Fame Weekend.

"The Hall of Fame Weekend is a chance for everyone who loves boxing to celebrate the spirit of the sport in 'Boxing's Hometown,'" said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. "Canastota looks forward to again hosting boxing's highlight weekend of the year."

Events planned for the weekend include a banquet, parade, golf tournament, boxing autograph card show, cocktail party, and professional boxing show. Tickets for all events are moving quickly. In fact, many events are already nearing a sell out.

Living inductees to be honored at the Official Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 8th are welterweight king Curtis Cokes, 2-time heavyweight champion George Foreman, junior welterweight champion Nicolino Locche, 3-division champion Mike McCallum, journalist Jack Fiske and author/screenwriter Budd Schulberg. Posthumous inductees will also be honored at the ceremony.

An impressive list of over 50 boxing greats from throughout the United States and abroad are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities. Among Hall of Fame alumni scheduled to attend include Carmen Basilio, Arthur Mercante, Ruben Olivares, Alexis Arguello, Angelo Dundee, Kid Gavilan, Jose Torres and Aaron Pryor.
