Hide out this Friday, but still targeting Harrison

21.07 - Former two-times WBO heavyweight champion Herbie Hide has been forced to postpone his ten-round clash with Mike Holden this Friday, (July 25th), at the Norwich Sports Village after slightly damaging his ankle in sparring at his Las Vegas training base.

"It is a slight recurrence of an old injury to his Achilles tendon," explained his promoter Mick Hennessy. "He did it late last week in what would have been one of his last sparring sessions in Vegas before leaving for England. He went to see a doctor immediately and it was decided that we would monitor the injury for a couple of days before making a decision on the fight.

"Unfortunately, it has only improved slightly so as a precaution he will not fight this Friday. It is frustrating, but we still have an excellent bill headlined by Howard Eastman - this countries best fighter pound for pound - in a defence of his European middleweight title against former WBC world champion Hassine Cherifi.

"Also we have the exceptional Southern Area light middleweight champion David Walker against fellow South Londoner Spencer Fearon, what promises to be an explosive eliminator for the British light welterweight title between Gavin Down and Alan Bosworth, the "Real Class of 2002" and the rest of the Hennessy Sports team.

He added: "Given that Mike Holden is a tough, experienced operator, we just felt that it was important we take no risks - Herbie need's to be 100% for the occasion. As is it not serious it will not take him long to get over the injury and we should see the fight happening in either September or October.

"In all other respects he is at the top of his game - as his two emphatic comeback victories to date over Derek McCafferty and then last time out over former conqueror Joseph Chingangu have proved. In the space of just a few months he has turned the domestic heavyweight division on its head."

So much so that the 31-year-old 'Dancing Destroyer' claims he has sent one of his long-time adversaries into hiding.

"It appears to me that Audley Harrison is so scared that he will do anything to get away from me," said Herbie.

"First of all he says he won't fight in Britain for a while; just as the public started to get interested and it looked as if there was a chance of us settling our differences in the ring.

"Unfortunately he made the mistake of coming to Las Vegas to train. Maybe he forgot that I have a training camp out here under former world champ Eddie Mustafa Muhammad!

"He has obviously realised that mistake now from what I am hearing. I have been told that he has asked everyone around him, including his sparring partners, to make sure that I don't find out when he is at the gym he uses as it is only just down the road from mine.

"I even have his trainer coming to watch me in the gym so that when I leave he can go and tell Audley that the coast is clear. It's crazy - I don't know what he is worried about, I just want to sort it out like men. Now I understand that his next fight will be in Australia - he couldn't get further away from me if he tried."

'Excitement Guaranteed' takes place at the Norwich Sports Village on Friday 25th July. The BBC covered Hennessy Sports promotion features: outstanding triple king Howard Eastman in a defence of his European Middleweight Title against former WBC champion Hassine Cherifi, David Walker in a defence of his Southern Area Light Middleweight Title against Spencer Fearon, Ryan Rhodes, Steve Spartacus, the 'Real Class of 2002' and the rest of the Hennessy Sports team.
