David Walker: "This is my big chance!"

03.08 - Over the last eighteen months David 'Kid Dynamite' Walker has certainly lived up to his nickname, capturing two titles and featuring in several potential fights of the year.

His last contest is already a certainty for this year's award. Last Friday at the Norwich Sports Village the 26-year-old from Sidcup sensationally climbed off the canvas on two occasions to stop fellow South Londoner Spencer Fearon in four rounds in a defence of his Southern Area light middleweight Title.

It is no wonder that he is already widely acknowledged by aficionados as the most exciting talent in British Boxing. His renown, however, is set to spread even further.

Promoter Mick Hennessy has secured the two-handed puncher with a distinguished amateur pedigree a showdown with European Light Middleweight Champion Roman Karmazine in London on October 4th. The fight will be broadcast on the BBC.

"I cannot thank Mick enough for securing me this opportunity," began Walker. "It is up to me now to repay his faith in me by winning."

He continued: "I know that most people will think that I haven't got what it takes to beat Karmazine, but that is the way I like it. I thrive on being the underdog.

"Karmazine may be a former world title challenger rated at number 4 by the WBC, but we have thought about this fight long and hard.

"Mick, my trainer Robert McCracken and I have studied a lot of tapes of him. We know that if I do what Robert tells me I will win.

"I admit that I haven't always done that. I have gone into too many fights over confident and just looked for the big shot - as I did against Fearon - and not stuck to the game plan.

"But I cannot afford to do that against Karmazine. Rob is not only one of my closest friends, he is one of the best trainers in the world and with him in my corner I can beat the best in the world - starting October 4th.

"This is my big chance. I get to fight in London for a title that will open every door for me, in front of my loyal supporters and on this countries leading terrestrial broadcaster in front of millions of viewers. It is not a chance I am going to waste."
