Richel Hersisia - King of the Caribbean?

14.10 - After getting rid of Kenyan journeyman Chris Sirengo, knocking him out cold in three rounds to become only the second man after Henry Akinwande to beat the African inside the distance, on Friday in Denmark to collect his 15th straight pro win (12 inside the distance), vaunted Dutch powerpuncher Richel Hersisia now shoots for his first professional title on November 30.

Much to the surprise of many boxing insiders, however, it won't be for the recently created European Union heavyweight championship of the EBU - actually the fight won't even take place in Europe! In a joint announcement made by Hersisia's German manager Olaf Schroeder and his Danish promoter Anders Vester it was revealed today that the 28-year-old 'Dutch Sonny Liston' will go back to the place of his birth, the picturesque island of Curacao (Netherland Antilles), to contest the currently vacant WBC Caribbean (Caribbean Boxing Federation, CABOFE) heavyweight title on above mentioned date over 12 rounds.

The title fight will be staged by local promoter Ivan Conradus, who has an excellent reputation in Caribbean boxing circles. Manager Schroeder of Fight Production explains: "Negotiations were conducted very professionally by Mr. Conradus and I can confirm that today we have signed all contracts, including a two-year exclusivity agreement with Mr. Conradus for further fights on the Netherland Antilles. Richel is over the moon at the moment to get the first title shot of his career on the island he was born on and loves! He hasn't been home since he left Curacao with his parents at age 13."

Conradus is at the moment busy to screen the Caribbean boxing scene to find a challenging opponent for Hersisia and an announcement will be forthcoming soon. "The amount of interest that was generated already on Curacao is astonishing," said Conradus, a former professional boxer himself, "This could be the greatest fight ever here on our island! In fact, it will mark the first time ever in the boxing history of Curacao that a heavyweight born here is fighting for an international championship"
