Hersisia warming up for title shot?

03.10 - When rising Dutch heavyweight Richel Hersisia steps back into the ring this month for Danish promoter Anders Vester it could well be as a prelude of a looming title chance later this year.

The big puncher from Den Haag, currently rated No. 17 by the EBU, successfully negotiated his first 8-rounder in August and will now return to Denmark on October 11 to improve his professional ledger now standing at 14-0 (11 KO's). His opponent in Thisted, on the undercard of the Christian Bladt v Christophe Carlier IBF Intercontinental scrap, will be lanky Kenyan Chris Sirengo, who by all accounts looks more difficult than threatning. According to sources in Kenya, Sirengo's record is about even, but he only lost once inside the scheduled distance to former WBO champion Henry Akinwande. The fact that Hersisia's fight is only pencilled in for six rounds seems to indicate that his German management of Fight Production is indeed fishing for a title chance before the year is out.

"We have had talks regarding a European Union title fight," confirms manager Olaf Schroeder, "but there are other options for Richel that are also under consideration. The one thing that really exites me during negotiations with different parties is how popular and in-demand Richel seems to become."

The man that the national press loves to call "The Dutch Sonny Liston" - much to the disliking of Schroeder, who also is a keen boxing historian - is currently preparing with trainer and former European champion Mourad Louati in hometown Den Haag. His promoter Vester is said to announce future plans with Hersisia soon after what looks more and more like a warm-up on October 11 for bigger fish to fry…
