Shelley Finkel comments on his heavyweight Dominick Guinn
and Budweiser's upcoming "Night of the Young Heavyweights" card

24.09 - One of the 3 featured fights being aired this Saturday, September 27, on the live HBO broadcast of Budweiser's "Night of the Young Heavyweights" card matches undefeated Dominick Guinn (22-0, 17 KO's) against Duncan Dokiwari (22-1, 19 KO's). Guinn is managed by well known boxing manager Shelly Finkel.

Finkel said that before he considers signing any boxer to a contract three standards weigh into his decision. "The fighter must have good amateur experience, I must believe they can be world champion and they must have a good work ethic," Finkel said.

Dominick Guinn seems to meet these requirements. He had a 290-26 amateur record and he was a 2-time National Golden Gloves Champion. He just defeated a name-opponent in Michael Grant and according to Finkel, the work ethic is there.

Some predicted Guinn would lose the Grant fight and Finkel bristled when it was suggested that this is what motivated Guinn. "He was motivated because this was an important fight; motivation isn't a problem with Dominick," Finkel retorted.

Finkel also showed interest in the main event between "Baby Joe" Mesi and DaVarryl "Touch of Sleep" Williamson. "Joe Mesi has a very formidable opponent," Finkel said. "Williamson has a big right hand, good experience as a pro, and lots of amateur experience."

Also on the card former cruiserweight champion Juan Carlos Gomez (36-0, 31 KO's) does battle with Sinan Samilsan (18-0, 11 KO's).

A crowd of better than 10,000 fans is expected to attend the event at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo.
