Camacho, Jr. Headlines ESPN2 Tuesday Night Fights

Star Showcased in Junior Welterweight Bout in Famed
Lincoln Theatre in Nation's Capital***
05.08 - Press Release - DiBella Entertainment's and
Michael Acri Boxing Promotions' dazzling Hector Camacho,
Jr. (35-1, 20 KOs) will take on Byron Mackie on Tuesday
Night, August 5, in the historic Lincoln Theatre in
Washington, D.C. The junior welterweight bout is slated
for ten rounds and will be televised as the main event
in a special edition of ESPN/2's Tuesday Night Fights.
The action begins at 8:00 PM/ET.
"Junior" not only shares the name of his
famous father, Hector Camacho, Sr., but also displays
the same electrifying speed, punching power and flair
that epitomized his dad's unique style. At only 24-years-old,
Hector Jr. has already held the WBA North America Super
Lightweight title belt; the USBO Welterweight Championship
and NABA Light Welterweight Title. World rankings have
been frequent. He won his first 31 pro bouts en route
to becoming the WBA's mandatory super lightweight challenger.
On July 7, 2001, Hector Jr. helped to return big time
boxing to Brooklyn after a 50-year gap when he fought
Jesse James Leija on DiBella Entertainment's celebrated
"Brooklyn Brawlers" card at KeySpan Park in
a match that ended in controversy and was ultimately
declared a no contest. It was a bout that pitted the
cagey veteran against the dazzling youngster, an acid
test for Camacho, which finished with both fighters
cut and bloodied.
Since then, Camacho Jr. has experienced the gamut of
emotions: a glittering fourth round TKO over Eric Jakubowski
on November 11, 2001; the first loss of his career,
a 10-round unanimous decision, against the highly regarded
Omar Weiss on March 21, 2001; and now two straight scores
- a 12-round decision over Arturo Urena on September
6, 2002 to capture the USBO Welterweight Title; and
disposing of Fred Ladd with a first round TKO on November
22 of last year in his first title defense.
Camacho Jr. made his pro debut on October 1, 1996,
scoring a four round decision over Lou Martinez, on
USA Network, with his father appearing in the main event.
It was only the second time in boxing history that a
father and son appeared on the same professional fight
card.
"I have the speed, the power and slickness to
whack," is the way the master showman assesses
his boxing attributes. The native of San Juan, Puerto
Rico, has not fought since a first round TKO victory
over Freddie Ladd in November of 2002.
Ticket pricing ranges from $25 to $100 and can be reserved
by calling (202) 432-SEAT (7328).
