Heavyweight Explosion: Mayfield vs Sykes, Llewelyn-Williams June 7

29.05 - Highly regarded Taurus Sykes of New York City faces former International Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion Imamu Mayfield of Freehold, N.J., in the 10-round heavyweight main event on the nationally and internationally televised "Everlast Heavyweight Explosion" professional boxing card presented by Cedric Kushner Promotions Saturday, June 7, at the Flamingo Laughlin (Nev)..

The semi-main event matches two heavyweight sluggers, Wayne Llewelyn, originally from England and now living in New York City, and Willie Williams of Powder Springs, Ga.

Also on the six-fight Cedric Kushner Promotions card is a female minimumweight fight between Deidra Hamaguichi, who has a Master's degree in architectural design from Yale and now teaches physics in New York City, and Stephanie Dobbs of Moore, Okla.

The Cedric Kushner Promotions card starts at 7 p.m. (Pacific) in the Flamingo Ballroom; doors open at 6.

Tickets, priced at $20, $35 and $60 with all seats reserved, are on sale at the Magic Booth in the Flamingo Laughlin casino from 6 a.m. to midnight daily. Tickets also may be ordered by calling (702) 298-5111 or (800) 435-8469 from 6 a.m. to midnight daily.

Three other four-round fights are on the Cedric Kushner Promotions card: heavyweight Willie Chapman of Ogden, Utah, against Todd Diggs of Las Vegas; undefeated Shane Cameron of New Zealand and Las Vegas against an opponent to be determined; and unbeaten super welterweight Daniel Codling of New Zealand and Las Vegas against another opponent to be determined.

The 28-year-old Sykes has a record of 20-1 with five knockouts.

Sykes has appeared at the Flamingo Laughlin twice, Jan. 12 last year and Aug. 25, 2001, both of them Cedric Kushner Promotions' "Everlast Heavyweight Explosions." Sykes decisioned Chapman last year and did the same to Charles Hatcher during 2001.

The 31-year-old Mayfield has a record of 23-4 with 18 knockouts and held the IBF cruiserweight championship during 1997 and 1998.

The 33-year-old Llewelyn, a southpaw, has a record of 25-4 with 18 knockouts and is fighting in the United States for the first time since 2000.

The 36-year-old Williams has a record of 16-5 with 11 knockouts.

Hamaguichi has a record of 0-3-2 while Dobbs has a mark of 6-7-2 with four knockouts.

The 35-year-old Chapman has a record of 15-17-3 with four knockouts while the 32-year-old Diggs has a mark of 4-6-3 with no knockouts.

The 25-year-old Cameron has a record of 2-0 with two knockouts while the 23-year-old Codling has a mark of 1-0 with no knockouts.

The card will be televised nationally on HDNet and on tape delay to more than 100 countries on the Cedric Kushner Promotions Sports Network.
