27.08 - Heavyweight Sedreck Fields meets former International Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion Al Cole in the 10-round main event of “Summer Punch,” a benefit card promoted by Cedric Kushner Promotions Saturday, Aug. 31, in Bridgehampton, N.Y.

Al "Ice" Cole vs. Oleg Maskaev in Heavyweight Main Event Aug 31

22.08 -There is a green, grassy patch of land located at 1000 Montauk Parkway next to the Carvel's ice cream parlor in Bridgehampton. Call it Cedric Kushner's Field of Dreams. Kushner, the former rock promoter - he handled the likes of Fleetwood Mac - turned boxing promoter extraordinaire (in 1984), has called East Hampton his home since 1985.

Kushner, a mustachioed boxing impresario who has promoted such champions as Shane Mosley, is originally from South Africa, arriving in the United States in 1971.

Since then, he has dreamed of promoting a professional prizefight card there. It finally happens on Saturday, August 31, over Labor Day weekend.

The event has been dubbed "Summer Punch" -- the first ever boxing card in the Hamptons -- a charity spectacular bringing the Hamptons glitterati together for an evening of boxing, fashion shows and musical entertainment. Kushner couldn't be happier that his dream has finally materialized. It will be televised worldwide to 50 countries as part of Kushner's popular Heavyweight Explosion series.

Kushner has promoted fights from Madison Square Garden to Las Vegas, but yearned to do one in his adopted hometown. "I've been wanting to do a boxing show in the Hamptons all along," says Kushner, "but a boxing show alone wouldn't cut it. We'll have the fancy people sitting ringside, entertainment and fashion shows. It will all take place in a huge tent, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served, and all for great charities. It will be a Hamptons event."

The entire show will feature heavyweights, not only the fighters, but the celebrities and charities will also be prime time.

The main event features Al "Ice" Cole (32-10-2, 16 KOs) vs. Oleg Maskaev (22-6, 17 KOs) a couple of bombers who have made their presence felt in the heavyweight ranks over the years. Cole is a native of Spring Valley, New York, fighting out of the Red Brick Gym in Newark, NJ, who recently iced a big win over the undefeated Vinny Maddalone in Atlantic City. Maskaev, a Russian giant now living in Brooklyn, has posted several big scores during his career, most notably knocking out both former heavyweight champ Hasim Rahman.

The charities to benefit include Naked Angels, which has a membership that includes: Matt Dillon, Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, John Leguizamo, Marissa Tomei and Gina Gershon, many of whom are expected to attend. In addition, chart-topping artists Eve and Outcast will be among the big names scheduled. The other charities involved are: the Diabetes Research Institute; Hospice; Bridgehampton Children's Center, Food Pantry; and South Fork Breast Health Coalition. Roca Wear and Outcast Clothing Co. will present their fashion lines.

"I've had a vision doing the first boxing event ever on the Hamptons," says Kushner. "But I knew it couldn't just be boxing. This is a special place, especially during the summer."

It will be a special evening. For tickets contact Kushner Promotions at 631-726-2700.
