Irish champ McBride fights for IBC title Oct. 26 at Wonderland Ballroom

26.09 - BROCKTON, Mass. - Fifty years ago (Sept. 23) Brockton great Rocky Marciano knocked out Jersey Joe Walcott to captured the world heavyweight championship.

Twenty-eight years later a middleweight from Brockton, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, won the world title.

Now there is another pug fighting out of Brockton for a boxing crown, Irish heavyweight champion Kevin "The Clones Colossus" McBride.

McBride, now living in Brookline and training at Goody Petronelli's gym in Brockton, fights Craig "C.T." Tomlinson for the vacant IBC Intercontinental Americas title Saturday night, October 26, in the 12-round main event of the final 2002 Mohegan Sun FightNight New England card, at the Wonderland Ballroom in Revere.

McBride (22-4-1, 22 KOs), 29, is coming off a 3rd round TKO of Bahamian heavyweight Reynaldo Minus this past July, while Tomlinson (23-11-1, 13 KOs), of Reading, PA, last fought in August and lost to Faruq Saleem (28-0), ranked No. 12 by the WBA.

"We'd like nothing better than have another champion fighting out of Brockton," Marciano's cousin, promoter Rich Cappiello, said about his prospect McBride. "Goody's been there and that's where we want to bring Kevin. A win Oct. 26th will give Kevin another belt (to go with his Irish title) and should put him in the top 25."

The MSFNE show is presented by Cappiello Promotions, in association with Mohegan Sun, Holiday Inn in Randolph and Boston, Metro Ford of Raynham, Budweiser, and Everlast. This is the final 2002 live-for-tape pro boxing show of an eight-fight deal between Cappiello Promotions and Fox Sports Net New England. The October 26 fight card will be videotaped and broadcast Sunday afternoon (3:30-5:30 p.m.), November 3.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $65.00 Gold ringside, $50.00 ringside and $30.00 general admission. For more information or to order tickets call 508.587.5554 or 508.587.3370. Or visit Cappiello Promotions' web site at www.cappielloboxing.com.
