Head 2 Head with Wladimir Klitschko

By B.Yap

Ben Yap: Define "Champion".

Wladimir Klitschko: the different world boxing organizations don`t count here; a champion is the man who beat the best.

BY: With the Championship Belts now de-unified, is there any chance you will seek to add another belt to the collection?

WK: This is definitely my main goal.

BY: What is the most important lesson you have learnt from all your successes and failures both in and out of the ring ?

WK: Boxing is comparable to life in general; you always will and have to learn each and every day.

BY: Who were your boxing role models ? For those who aren't familiar with the way you fight, describe your fighting style.

WK: Max Schmeling, Muhammad Ali; my style is very dangerous; great mover, great boxer, great puncher - at the moment together with my brother Vitali simply the best.

BY: You have fought tough brawlers like Mercer as well as elusive fighters like Byrd and beat them all, is there any fighter out there that you can see who would give you problems?

WK: No, there can`t be any surprises

BY: Alot of media attention is on Ruiz-Jones and on what Lennox Lewis plans to do next. What are YOUR plans for 2003 in order to keep reminding the fans and the public out there, just who Wladimir Klitschko is.

WK: Vitali and I will stay in the division, will fight strong opponents and finally this year or next year share the major titles between us.

BY: Is there any special message you would like to say to all of your fans, and especially the young people who look up to you as a role model?

WK: Try to learn, learn, learn each and every day!

East Side Boxing thank Bernd Bonte & Wladimir Klitschko for taking time out of training camp to make this interview possible.
