Trainer Rick Morones Jr: “Adrien Broner will KO Marcos Maidana”

broner 075Every great trainer throughout boxing’s storied history has insisted that fights are won and lost in the gym. If the age old adage is indeed true, former IBF Junior Welterweight Champion Marcos Maidana could be in serious trouble this weekend.

Throughout the entire week leading up to the eventual “gun fight” with the hard punching Argentine, three division world champion and current WBA Welterweight title holder Adrien “The Problem” Broner has been finalizing head trainer Mike Stafford’s game plan at the Team Morones Boxing Club in San Antonio, Texas.

Talented, young gym owner and trainer Rick Morones Jr. has been thoroughly impressed with what he’s seen from the Cincinnati, Ohio native during the days leading into the highly anticipated showdown.

“Adrien Broner is a beast,” claims the 28 year old boxing mentor.

Adrien Broner and Marcos Maidana Interview Transcript

BronerMaidanaPrePC_Hoganphotos4Marcos, if you could maybe make a quick opening statement before I’m going to introduce Adrien?

Marcos Maidana

I’m excited to be on this great boxing card the next 14th of December in San Antonio. I’m in the last stage of my preparation, which has been great; and once again, I’m convinced that Adrien Broner has never fought a rival like me, so it will not be easy for him.

R. Schaefer

Thank you. Now, the man I’m going to introduce, he talks the talk. Some of them don’t like him because of it, but you know what? He’s one of those guys who not only talks the talk, but he walks the walk. He is, without question, quickly becoming one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. He has a record of 27-0, with 22 knockouts. He is already a three division world champion.

At 130 pounds in 2011, he won the WBO World Title against Vicente Rodriguez in three rounds, by the way. In 2012, he defended the WBA with fourth round TKO over then undefeated Eloy Perez and then against Vicente Escobedo in July.

Paulie Malignaggi, Zab Judah Interview Transcript

005 Judah and Malignaggi IMG_0507Zab Judah: Training camp has been fun. We had a great training camp here in Las Vegas and a lot of good public relations and I’m just excited to come back home and be crowned the king of BK.

Paulie Malignaggi: It’s a pleasure being on with everyone once again. I really look forward to mixing it up with Zab and hopefully we get a record crowd for Brooklyn at Barclays Center. I know he’s got a lot of support in Brooklyn and I know I have a lot of support in Brooklyn. We have a great supporting cast on the undercard and I think this card has the potential to be the best card that Barclays Center has put on yet, and we’ve had some great cards there. Hopefully, like Richard said, we get a good crowd. I would like it to be a sell-out card. I think it is going to be the most spectacular card that has been at Barclays yet. I look forward to mixing it with him and seeing who really is the king of Brooklyn for this generation and I’ve prepared very well for that.

Q: Dan Rafael ESPN- Hello guys- good to talk to you today. I’d like you both to answer. You guys are both from Brooklyn in the same weight class. When did you start to think this fight would happen?

Nonito Donaire vs. Vic Darchinyan II: Revisionist historian

_MG_9679On July 7th, 2007, a scarcely known Filipino fighter named Nonito Donaire challenged the consensus regarded “Lord of the Flies”, Vic Darchinyan, for his IBF 112 pound title, and defeated the heavily favored champion with one swift left hook in the fifth round of their scheduled twelve round contest.

Today, it’s hard not to recognize the ripple effect of that impactful punch. Both fighters ended up going in two different directions professionally as a result of that significant blow to the chin of the formerly undefeated and highly regarded champion.

Since that fateful day, Nonito Donaire has gone on to compete in many lucrative bouts on the biggest stage of boxing, picking up three more division world titles and becoming one of the more highly regarded fighters in the entire sport.

In contrast, the “Raging Bull” from Armenia has garnered a respectable record of 11-4-1 with six knock-outs since the initial bout with the “Filipino Flash”, but has fallen short of most initial observations as one of the most feared pound for pound punchers in the entire sport, circa 2007.
