Mikey Garcia destroys Lopez; Crawford stops Sanabria
Mikey Garcia (32-0, 27 KO’s) put on a jabbing and counter-punching clinic in destroying a once good fighter Juan Manuel Lopez (33-3, 30 KO’s) by a 4th round TKO tonight at the American Airlines Center, in Dallas, Texas, USA. Mikey, 25, knocked Juanma down twice in the fight, once in the 2nd from a right hand, and a final time in the 4th with a tremendous left hook. Official time of stoppage was 1:35.
As good as Juanma once was, he looked like a shot fighter tonight. He looked nothing like the fighter he was back in 2008 and 2009.
Mikey fought without his WBO featherweight title, which had been forfeited the day before when Mikey gave up after failing to make weight at the weigh-in.
Juanma gave it his best shot tonight, but he didn’t have the inside game to get inside Mikey’s long reach to take advantage of Mikey’s less than impressive inside game. Most of the time, Juanma stayed outside and ate jabs over and over again. His left eye began to swell by the 3rd and it was pretty clear that unless he was able to mount a big attack, he was going to get stopped. Juanma got reckless in the 3rd and 4th, as he charged forward trying to land his shots. This made it easy for Mikey to land his counter-punches. and eventually
In the 4th, Mikey caught Juanma with a perfect left hook to the head that dropped him. The fight was then waived off.
In the co-feature, unbeaten lightweight contender Terrence Crawford (21-0, 15 KO’s) stayed unbeaten by stopping the hard hitting Alejandro Sanabria (34-2-1, 25 KO’s) in the 6th round. Crawford dropped Sanabria with a perfect left hook to the head in the 6th. Sanabria staggered to his feet, but the fight was halted at 0:17 of the round. Crawford dominated from start to finish and staggered Sanabria in the 3rd round with a big right hand.
