Tyson Fury turns down big offer for David Price bout
By Michael Collins: Undefeated heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) has reportedly turned down a big £1 million offer from British promoter Frank Maloney for a fight against the unbeaten 6’8” David Price (15-0, 13 KO’s) for an all British clash in June, possibly in Anfield or London.
Fury said on his twitter today: “Frank Maloney Is at his bull**** again offering 1million pounds! He must think r skint my watch is $268000! Dream on little man & come c us when u can afford me. Remember your talking to Tyson2FastFury!!! Audley Harrison apparently earned 1.5 mill for fighting Haye?! got to be worth more than that?”
Fury wants to get a title shot against the WBC champion Vitali Klitschko or he wants to be in the position to fight for the vacant WBC strap if Vitali chooses to retire this year. Just by fighting the soft opponents that he’s been facing, Fury could get a title shot in the near future.
If Fury is forced to fight a title eliminator against the likes of Chris Arreola or Bermane Stiverne then things won’t be as simple for him because those guys can punch and we’ve already see Fury hit the deck against lesser punchers, and we’ve also seen him hurt by non-punchers.
I don’t know why Maloney would offer 1million pounds when he hasn’t proven himself against anyone that you could call a good heavyweight. Fury has never won a world title, and his best opponent of his career was an out of shape Dereck Chisora. As far as I’m concerned, Fury isn’t worth even a quarter of the 1 million pounds because he may not pan out when he starts facing quality opposition.
I see Price as a much better heavyweight than Fury and I think it would be a mismatch if those two were to fight. I don’t expect Fury to accept a fight with Price and I can understand why he wouldn’t want that fight because he doesn’t have the power to worry Price. Without power to hurt Price, Fury would be forced to take Price’s big shots for 12 rounds. Fury likely wouldn’t last long under those kinds of conditions.
