The Steel City Boss On Spike TV

This weekend, British fans get the chance to see Commonwealth bantamweight champion Ross “The Boss” Burkinshaw (14-5-2, 8ko) take another step in his “Cinderella Man” story when he challenges for the WBO inter-continental title on free to air TV in the UK against South Africa’s Klass Mboyane.

The Sheffield fighter, who has enjoyed a career resurgence under Wincobank veteran Ryan Rhodes in the corner, finally gets the television exposure he deserves in a promotional master stroke by Dennis Hobson – that will hopefully see him move one step closer to his dream of capturing a world title – and get his name out to a far wider audience.

Burkinshaw – who enjoys massive support in his home city of Sheffield – has bounced back since a 2nd round knockout loss to the visibly bigger Gavin McDonnell (twin of IBF 118lb champ Jamie) 2 years ago and is coming in on a 5 fight win streak that culminated in a 1st round blowout of Benjamin Smoes in February – following on from his hard fought Commonwealth title win last September against Jason Cunnigham. A fight Burkinshaw took on extremely late notice.

This Saturday UK fans will be in for a treat, as chief support comes from Barnsley’s Josh Wale, who fans will remember from fights with Jazza Dickens and Kid Galahad – as he squares off against Welshman Dai Davies – all from Rotherham’s Magna Centre.

A true evening of ‘proper’ British boxing!

All the action is on Spike TV from 10pm (Sky 160 – Freeview/TalkTalk/BT TV 31 – Freesat 141.
