Carson, California, USA – Showtime boxing presents another great tripleheader Saturday June 21st from the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California, which has become one of the premiere west coast boxing venues. The fights start live at 10pm eastern and 7pm pacific. Below are the weigh in results and a quick breakdown of the fights (including notable untelevised bouts) for tomorrow’s stacked card.

Robert Guerrero 31-2-1 (18KO) vs. Yoshihiro Kamegai 24-1-1 (21KO), welterweights
Guerrero: 146 pounds
Kamegai: 146.75 pounds

Guerrero returns to the ring following his loss to Mayweather last May, while Kamegai fought in Japan a couple months ago. The Japanese fighter (who will be fighting at the Stub Hub Center for the second time) comes in with a slight height advantage, standing 5’9” to the American’s 5’8”.

Gary Russell Jr 24-0 (14KO) vs. Vasyl Lomachenko 1-1 (1KO), featherweights
Russell Jr: 125.5 pounds
Lomachenko: 125.5 pounds

Lomachenko is the taller man, standing at 5’6”, compared to Russell measuring 5’4. The interesting thing is that while Russell has been a pro for 5 years, Lomachenko has already faced the better opposition, having lost a split decision to veteran Orlando Salido in only his second professional fight.

Devon Alexander 25-2 (14KO) vs. Jesus Soto Karass 28-9-3 (18KO), welterweights
Alexander: 148.25 pounds
Soto Karass: 148 pounds

Alexander returns from a decision loss to Shawn Porter last December, while Soto Karass returns from a TKO loss to Keith Thurman the same month. The ‘Stub Hub Center’ crowds love the Mexican native who now makes nearby North Hollywood his home; no doubt he’ll be the fan favorite in this one. Soto Karass also brings a size advantage to the ring, standing 5’9” with a 72” reach (Alexander is listed at 5’7”, 70”).

NOTABLE UNTELEVISED BOUTS:

Chad Dawson 31-3 (17KO) vs. George Blades 23-5 (16KO), light heavyweights
Dawson: 182.8 pounds
Blades: 177.4 pounds

Former light heavyweight champion Dawson is coming off a yearlong layoff, having suffered stoppage losses in his last two bouts. The soon to be 40 year old Blades was stopped in his last fight as well against another former 175 pound champ, Jean Pascal, last September in Montreal. Dawson is the taller and longer fighter; if he has anything left he should dominate Blades.

Dominic Breazeale 10-0 (9KO) vs. Devin Vargas 18-3 (7KO), heavyweights
Breazeale: 251.6 pounds
Vargas: 234 pounds

Former college football quarterback and Olympic super heavyweight Breazeale, who stands at a towering 6’7”, faces 6’3” Vargas in his first scheduled 10 rounder. Although most don’t expect this to go the distance, as all 3 of Vargas’ losses came by way of stoppage.

Vyacheslav Shabranskyy 8-0 (7KO) vs. Michael Gbenga 19-14 (19KO), light heavyweights
Shabranskyy: 175.4 pounds
Gbenga: 172.8 pounds

Those of you who follow the World Series of Boxing may remember Shabranskyy from the “LA Matadors”, who were the premiere North American team before disbanding after the second season. The Ukraine native now makes Los Angeles his home, and figures to have crowd support against his most experienced professional opponent to date.
